Job Purpose
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement and Inclusive Excellence, the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the fraternity and sorority community, ensuring a positive, enriching experience for all members. This role involves fostering leadership development, academic achievement and community engagement while spearheading chapter growth and expansion and strengthening alumni relationships. The Director manages a small team to support operations and student outreach and serves on the Student Engagement team.
Job Summary
Leadership, Administration and Supervision
Provides strategic vision and leadership for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Supervises the Assistant Director, Graduate Associate, and student Digital Media Assistant.
Manages the Fraternity and Sorority Life budget and council-related financial accounts.
Develops, implements and assesses programs and initiatives that align with the university’s mission and the needs of the fraternity and sorority community.
Serves as liaison between university administration, fraternity and sorority chapters, alumni and national organizations.
Chapter Support, Development and Expansion
Supports existing chapters in their growth and development strategies, helping them thrive and contribute positively to campus life.
Offers guidance and support in the areas of leadership development, risk management and academic success.
Assists chapters in developing and implementing recruitment strategies, new member education programs and membership retention plans.
Coordinates regular meetings with chapter presidents and council executive boards to discuss goals, challenges and opportunities.
Leads efforts to expand the fraternity and sorority community by identifying opportunities for new chapter charters and onboarding processes.
Collaborates with national organizations and local advisors to bring new chapters to campus, ensuring alignment with Winthrop University’s values and goals.
Risk Management and Policy Compliance
Ensures compliance with university policies, local, state (i.e. Tucker Hipps Transparency Act) and federal laws, and national organization standards.
Develops and implements risk management policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy environment for all members.
Conducts investigations and adjudicates violations of the university’s code of conduct and fraternity/sorority policies in collaboration with the Office of the Dean of Students.
Advising and Mentorship
Advises the executive boards of NPC, IFC, NPHC and Order of Omega.
Provides mentorship, coaching and support to individual chapter leaders and members.
Facilitates leadership development opportunities and training for fraternity and sorority members.
Programming and Events
Plans and executes educational programs, workshops and events that promote leadership, diversity and inclusion, wellness and community service.
Coordinates large-scale events, including Greek Week, Homecoming and philanthropic activities.
Supports councils in planning and implementing their respective programs and events.
Assessment and Evaluation
Develops and implements assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
Uses data to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
Prepares semester and annual reports on the state of the fraternity and sorority community, including membership statistics, academic performance, and program outcomes.
Collaboration and Outreach
Fosters relationships with alumni, community partners and national fraternity and sorority headquarters.
Collaborates with various university departments and offices to enhance the fraternity and sorority experience and positively elevate the community’s profile.
Develop and implement strategies to engage fraternity and sorority alumni and foster lifelong connections and support for the active chapters.
