Archivist
This is a faculty postion within the library.
The Louisiana State University Health Shreveport Library (LSUHS) seeks a motivated, collaborative, and service-oriented Archivist to provide leadership and expertise in the management of the LSUHS Archives, handling materials in all formats, developing exhibits (digital and physical) on a routine basis, engaging in instructional activities, and providing research support.
The Archives serves as the official repository of the university, providing long-term preservation and access to the collection documenting its development and history.
Responsibilities Include:
Identifies, appraises, and acquires select historical administrative documents, publications, pictures and artifacts that document the history of LSUHS, its faculty, staff, students (including student organizations), and those tied to the university community to build and strengthen the Archives.
Works with administrative units across campus to ensure activities, awards, and promotional materials are cataloged in the Archives.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Essential Position Functions & Duties
60% Archive Responsibilities
Identifies, appraises, acquires, arranges, describes, and preserves materials, in all formats, that document the history of LSUHSC-S.
Conducts interviews to determine patron needs of possible archive material.
Keeps statistics on who makes requests from the archives, number of times information is requested and time it takes to fulfill inquires.
Maintains and updates an archival list for the location of materials in a timely manner.
Maintains digital preservation practices and procedures.
Digitizes and catalogs items in the Archives into Louisiana Digital Library (LDL) following the institutional and LDL policies and procedures.
Create exhibits on a bimonthly basis on topics related to the institutions history or special observances.
Serves as liaison to the LSUHSC-S Office of Communications and Public Affairs department and the LSUHSC-S Foundation.
20% Reference
Provide reference assistance to library users.
10% Faculty Duties
Participates in state, regional and national professional organizations in order to maintain knowledge of library information trends and advancements.
Develops grant proposals
Looks for potential research ideas multiple faculty can take part in
On an occasional basis, writes newsletter or journal articles

Applicant must meet one of the following qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS (Master’s in Library Science) with a concentration in archives management, a master’s degree in archives or museum administration from an accredited institution or a masters degree in history with a Society of American Archivists Arrangement and Description (A&D) or Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Certificate
One or more years of the following experience in:
processing archival materials in various formats.
descriptive content standards and best practices, particularly Dublin Core, EAD, and DACS.
Expert in Microsoft Office program.
Experience with the digital archive management system.
