Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian community providing education for leadership and service.

General Summary:

The instructional design team will work with internal departments and individual stakeholders to create engaging and intuitive learning experiences for programs serviced by the Trevecca Nazarene University, which includes non-traditional programs comprised of adult degree-completion, graduate, online, and professional development programs for campus and off-site locations.  The Instructional Designer will be a regular full-time 12-month position with salary and fringe benefits to be established by the University.  Flexible hours required to accommodate subject matter experts to complete development. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Innovative Instruction and Online Learning.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Training or Course Creation, Approval, & Revision
   1. Function as a project manager for the course development.
      1. Create and follow a process of course creation.
      2. Develop templates for rapid deployment of training or courses.

• Adhere to project timelines, managing the milestones of the project, for the rapid delivery of innovative programs, meeting critical deadlines for training/course developing, while also meeting quality standards.

1. Provide support for content expert to assist with online professional development trainings, workshops, or course creation using Trevecca’s learning management system or web-authoring tools using SCORM.
   1. Educate content expert about course development and design options.
   2. Work collaboratively with faculty to transform subject content into sophisticated online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses that engage learners in their courses and continue learning (and faculty) wants to return.

• Provide suggestions for course activities based in current learning theories that drive user engagement to facilitate the learning outcomes of the course.

1. Provide guidance on use of media, social technologies, and other resources for course development.
2. Create documents and templates (e.g. instructor guides, syllabus, surveys, etc.) to assist faculty with course development and evaluation.

1. Work with the Center for Innovative Instruction staff on using SCORM, proofread content, and make recommendations for revisions.
2. Assist with the final approval of new professional developments or online courses.
   1. With program directors and deans, develop an approval process for new courses.
   2. Make recommendations regarding the approval of new courses.
3. Revise existing courses to meet standards.
   1. Create a schedule for the regular review of all active courses.
   2. Work with content experts to bring substandard professional development training or courses up to standards.
4. User Experience
   1. Champion the value that design can bring to the learning environment.
   2. Work collaboratively with the LMS administrator, program directors, faculty, and others to ensure that the user experience design elevates our platform to deliver a world-class experience.
   3. Establish and implement best practices for design.
   4. Create intuitive architecture, user flows, layouts, and interactions.
   5. Continually evaluate the user experience and make recommendations for improvements.
5. Quality Assurance
   1. Assist in the development of policies and processes for course/program development and revision.
   2. Work collaboratively with the academic affairs team, deans, and directors to develop standards for courses administered through the CII. These should include standards for course design, delivery, authenticity, learner engagement, and content.
6. Leadership
   1. Learn continually about the needs of Trevecca’s administrators, faculty, students, and market.
   2. Become an expert in Trevecca’s context (the schedule, operational structure, and market) in order to provide leadership and to leverage expertise.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• A master’s degree in instructional design or equivalent degree is required
• Experience with systems used for distance education and experience supporting instructors and users in an academic environment is required.
• Three or more years of experience developing professional development, workshops, courses and curriculum for adult and/or online learning in the LMS is desired.
• Knowledge of various learning theories and learning styles is desired.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, graphic design, and/or mobile app development is desired.
• Proficiency in Articulate, Captivate, and Photoshop.
• Ability to create positive relationships with diverse University stakeholders across multiple fields and disciplines is required.
• Commitment to the mission of Trevecca Nazarene University is required.

Required Job Outcomes

• Demonstrate thought-leadership by developing and successfully implementing innovative solutions to identified needs in online professional development, bootcamps, and workshops.
• Collaboratively develop courses in the LMS or using SCORM that are completed on time and with the highest quality
• Develop an intuitive, engaging user experience in all professional developments, workshops, and online courses.

• Knowledge of and experience with learning management systems from a student services perspective.
• Operational understanding of online/distance education.

To perform the duties of this job, the employee will:

• Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

• Occasionally work evening and weekends hours, when required.
• Express a mature Christian testimony and understands and can communicate the merits of a Wesleyan theological heritage in Christian education.
