alMawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art seeks to appoint a Research Assistant for the Center?s to assist with current research, programs, assist with incoming archive inventories, attend and report on local relevant conferences, assist with alMawrid?s communication, and website content. Conduct literature and databases research to support archival documentation, oversee student research assistants as needed, and contribute to the oral history project.
Responsibilities of the position
Conduct research for archival documentation, check incoming inventories and handover of collections, both physical and digital. Conduct literature reviews and interviews. Submit reports on assigned research topics.
Conduct research in Arabic and English, literature review, writing reports.
Assist with alMawrid?s programs, including collaborations with NYUAD Faculty and external collaborators. Programs include lectures, conferences, exhibitions, attend and report on local conferences.
Responsible for alMawrid library, cataloging books and journals, updating and maintaining the Center?s information resource lists.
Maintain the Center?s programs calendar.
Participate in alMawrid?s meetings and submit bi-monthly progress reports.
Ability to work independently and with alMawrid team including faculty, staff, students, and external engagement researchers. Lean new research methodology.
Knowledge of Arab culture and art or related field. Ability to multitask within specified deadlines. Ability to manage multiple programs efficiently
The candidate will also work on individualized research projects under the supervision/mentorship of the supervisor.
This position is supervised by Dr. Salwa Mikdadi
Required Education
BA in art history or related field, at least one-year experience in research or project management
Preferred Education
MA in art history or related field
Required Work and Related Experience
Project (program) management and editing experience
Preferred Work and Related Experience
Experience with archives and/or knowledge of art and culture of the Arab world
Required Competencies
Bilingual Arabic and English language
Preferred Competencies:
Ability to work independently and with other researchers, archivists, and administrative staff
