Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Utilities Supervisor for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing storm asset management under the broad guidance of the Utilities Superintendent of statewide maintenance, and emergency services for distribution and mechanical systems as directed.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Managing utilities operations: Overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the university's utilities systems, including electricity, water, heating, cooling, and waste management. Supervise preventive maintenance, repairs, inspection, placard identification and CMMS documentation for all storm assets and storm distribution piping. Ensuring the continuous availability and functionality of these services. Procure materials while keeping equipment and assigned fleet operation up to date on maintenance as well as reporting any issues.
Supervising staff: Leading a team of technicians and operators responsible for maintaining and operating the utilities systems. Providing guidance, training, and support to staff members, and ensuring their adherence to safety protocols and university policies. Assist in providing coverage and fill in for staff when absent or on vacation.
Emergency response and troubleshooting: Responding to utilities-related emergencies, such as power outages or equipment failures, and coordinating appropriate actions to minimize disruptions. Conducting troubleshooting, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective measures to prevent future occurrences. Coordinate and oversee repairs required on storm assets and distribution. Act as lead safety officer in crew and maintain safety as first priority in field during operations.
Compliance with regulations: Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding utilities operations, safety standards, and environmental stewardship. Keeping abreast with NJDEPNJAC Chapter 7:8 regulations and implementing appropriate protocols and procedures to maintain University compliance.
Planning and project management: Collaborating with other university departments and external vendors to effectively plan and execute utilities-related projects. This may include system upgrades, installations, and expansions to meet the university's evolving needs.
Perform other duties as assigned including the full scope of coverage in the absence of the Utilities Superintendent due to a leave of absence or extended vacation.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and a minimum of five (5) years' experience in jetting and vacuum maintenance as related to sewer and storm equipment.
