The College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is currently accepting applications for an Academic Advisor position. We are excited to find an energetic and engaged candidate to join our Student Success team that includes Academic Advisors, our Academic Navigator, and our Recruitment team.

Provide comprehensive academic advising services to architecture, interior design, landscape architecture students and to students transitioning between majors. Be able to understand how cultural context, differences, and institutional/social barriers influence the student experience in order to apply inclusive advising strategies for all students. Provide academic and/or social support for first generation, low-income, and/or historically under-represented college students. Maintain a thorough knowledge of academic program requirements and academic policy information. Engage in collaborative advising conversations with students and share developmentally appropriate advice regarding academic/course planning, career development, extracurricular involvement/exploration, and professional preparation. Utilize excellent interpersonal communication and relational skills to help students explore and identify interests, skills, and abilities. Identify and provide support for students struggling academically and/or personally and make appropriate referrals to support resources. Collaborate with the College of Architecture Student Success team and other campus offices to engage in best practices and to develop programming to aid student retention and success efforts. Utilize various student information systems to assess student progress and record contacts in digital notes systems. Communicate with parents and/or professional contacts from outside the University and with faculty/staff in other University offices. Develop and deliver presentations to various sized audiences, which may include students, faculty, staff, and/or parents – including the Smart Start course. Occasional evening and weekend advising required.

Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of demonstrated experience working with students in 1:1 or group advising settings. Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of experience. Experience must demonstrate an ability to learn and stay current on complex academic requirements, policies, and procedures. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Must have demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in order to apply inclusive advising strategies. Must have evidence of working in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment essential.

Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or related field preferred. Experience in design fields/education desirable. Experience with college/university-level students helpful. Experience providing academic and/or social support for first generation, low-income, and/or historically under-represented college students preferred. An understanding of student records, admissions, retention, and graduation requirements desirable. Experience in developing and delivering programs and presentations helpful.
