Program Overview HCA Florida Largo Hospital PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency is a 1-year program uniquely premised on a specialized 455-bed Acute Care Teaching Hospital, with established GME Program.
The program is designed to train and develop a competent clinical pharmacist qualified to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and provide evidence-based, patient-centered medication management.
Our residency includes experience in the areas of decentralized, interdisciplinary patient care (IM, ID, Critical Care, ED, OR, Mechanical Circulatory Support ECMO and durable LVAD , Transplant), improvement of medication-use systems, provision of practice-related education, leadership, and project management.
We foster and promote continuous professional development culture by supporting self-directed, ongoing, and outcomes-focused approach to longitudinal learning.
Service lines The hospital offers a number of specialty services such as Behavioral Health, Cardiovascular Services including Advanced Heart Failure management (ECMO, implantable Left Ventricular Assist Device), Heart Transplant, Kidney and Liver Transplant, advanced GI and Hepatobiliary Care, Orthopedic/Total Joint surgical procedures, Spine / Neurointerventional Care, and Robotic Surgery.
Rotations Core:
- Clinical Administration (4-week)
- Critical Care I / II (8-week)
- Internal Medicine (4-week)
- OR Surgical Services (4-week)
- Pharmacy Orientation
Elective concentrated 4-week rotations may include but is not limited to:
- Advanced Cardiac Critical care with MCS (Impella, ECMO, VAD)
- Abdominal Transplant with Transition of Care
- Mental Health
- Emergency Medicine
- Medication Safety
Longitudinal 48-week required rotations include the following:
- Infectious Diseases
- Pharmacy Management
- QI Project
- Pharmacy Operations (Staffing)
- Dissemination of Knowledge (Teaching Certificate)

Competitive stipend
Program duration: 12 months
Start Date: July 1
10 days of paid time off (PTO)
Meal stipend
Approved educational and professional leave to attend ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and the Florida Residency Conference. Financial assistance is provided for travel, meals and lodging.

Application Requirements
Graduate or candidate for graduation from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program
Licensed or eligible to apply for a license to practice pharmacy in the state of Florida. All being selected residents must be licensed in the state of Florida within 90 days from the start of the residency.
Participate in the ASHP Residency Matching Program
Completed application submitted to PhORCAS prior to January 5, and include:
Letter of intent
Copy of pharmacy school transcript
Three professional references/evaluations submitted via PhORCAS
