Baruch College seeks a dedicated and innovative Instructional Designer to join the Digital Learning Hub (DLH) team. Reporting to the Online Program Manager, the Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with the Associate Provost for Instructional Excellence, faculty, and program leadership to develop and implement high-quality online programs using the Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS).
The Digital Learning Hub (DLH) builds cross-divisional partnerships between faculty and staff to create transformative and innovative student-centered digital learning experiences that increase educational access and support student success through instructional excellence, dynamic multimedia, and high-quality course and program design.
Job Duties:
Instructional Design
Implement a consultative ???backwards??? instructional design process in partnership with faculty according to best practices in instructional design to develop and deliver fully asynchronous and hybrid online courses.
Develop weekly course storyboards.
Build learning sequence content into an LMS, Brightspace.
Ensure best practices for student engagement and accessibility are consistently implemented.
Develop and implement learner personas and resources to ensure course design is centered around learner needs.
Identify creative media and interactive learning opportunities in online courses.
Review course materials and make recommendations regarding quality, engagement, grammatical accuracy, and functionality of course components using instructional design rubrics.
Author skill building and professional development resources to support institutional growth and innovation in the area of instructional design.
Project Management
Project manage 6-8 course development projects at any given time.
Report on the status of courses in development to a variety of stakeholders at multiple levels.
Implement project plans for each course under development.
Escalate project challenges and opportunities in conversation with program leadership to remove blockers to faculty success.
Facilitate meetings with a variety of technical and subject matter experts.
Communicate strategically with team members from internal and external departments.
Technical Skills
Employ a wide knowledge of digital tools that support learning.
Support faculty and design team members in re-envisioning or adapting existing teaching content for online learning.
Align designs with OSQCR and/or Quality Matters rubrics.
Review and teach software applications to faculty developers, assisting with implementation as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master???s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, digital pedagogy, or a related field or
Demonstrated vision and passion for creating learning experiences that place a high value on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
Experience using development tools (e.g., Powerpoint, Google Slides, Photoshop, Canva, etc) to produce and edit content
Ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
Experience and knowledge working with higher education faculty to develop distance education programs and courses, and provide technology support
Comprehensive knowledge of distance education pedagogies and technologies, including current instructional theories and principles applicable to web-based learning and web-based course management systems
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent management and organization skills
Enterprising, proactive, and diplomatic at solving problems
Experience in ensuring learning experience designs takes learner needs, accessibility standards, and underlying technology into consideration.

Supports and consults with faculty, students, and others in the use of instructional systems, software, and programs.
Provides day-to-day support for users of instructional systems
May supervise a College help desk related to academic technology, supervising and training staff
Designs, develops, and delivers training and orientation sessions on the use of instructional technologies
May serve as an administrator and/or account coordinator for one or more systems
Assists in demonstrating the practical application of computers and communications technology for classes and workshops for faculty or students
May track problem reports, troubleshoot reported issues, and document resolutions
Performs related duties as assigned.
