Job Summary
The Co-Director of Engineering (R&D Engineering Manager 1) will direct a sub-set of engineering research at the UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) leading the development, design, implementation and oversight of engineering research in building science including energy efficiency, energy demand reduction and load shifting, and electrification to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Under general direction of the Faculty Director of the WCEC, actively support the mission of the Center by contributing to the strategic direction, supervising the Engineering Team, and leading and supporting the development of proposals and strategic partnerships. Work on advancing building science energy efficiency research initiatives as part of the Energy Efficiency Institute (EEI) umbrella.
Represent EEI and WCEC at technical meetings and outreach to partners in industry organizations, utilities, and government agencies. Manage Engineering Team (4.00 FTE) and laboratory facilities and determine how to use resources to meet organizational goals, schedules and objectives. Provide guidance to staff to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Serve as technical specialist in the area of energy efficiency, load shifting, and building electrification, with a focus on residential and commercial buildings. Advise on the systems design, analysis, and application of advanced process technologies. Conduct original research and analysis of building systems, including design, installation, maintenance, commissioning, and retrofits. Disseminate research results through industry publications, case studies, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed journals.

Minimum Qualifications For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and equivalent experience and education related to building science and energy efficiency.
Experience with building energy efficiency and related research programs and project analysis.
Skill to analyze financial balances and budgets in order to keep on track and forecast a programs future needs and issues.
Strong management skills associated with leading an engineering team and the planning and execution research programs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical individuals, to manage, research, secure, and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems and make public presentations.
Ability to prioritize and oversee research initiatives for the unit in order to achieve goals and objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
Some graduate level coursework in Engineering or related field and equivalent experience and education related to building science and energy efficiency.
Knowledge of energy research, policies, and rate structures in the state of California.
Skills to interpret, and apply federal/state/university rules, regulations, and policies to specific projects issues.
