Description
Pratt Institute's Photography Department is seeking an Assistant Chairperson of Graduate Photography. This position supports the graduate program in the department and manages the related facilities and events, the flow of administrative information and corresponding curricular and academic affairs. The Assistant Chair will have a wide latitude for independent judgment while working seamlessly with the graduate cohort, faculty, and department staff and supervising student workers.
The Photography department offers two academic programs, a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Photography. The department is located in the School of Art and also serves students outside the department.

Examples of Duties
Oversee course scheduling, course offerings and faculty assignments in consultation with the chairperson. Duties include communicating with the Registrar on course and room schedules, faculty course loads, etc.
Lead the admissions process for the MFA Photography program: liaising with applicants to schedule interviews, managing decision letters, organizing and maintaining systems and preserving the confidentiality of student and faculty files.
Advise MFA Photography students on program requirements, course planning, and program completion, as well for Fall, Summer, and Spring registration. Support the graduate students in their academic pursuits, liaising with faculty, staff and administrators across the institute.
Coordinate and plan events, including incoming student Orientation, Open Studios, Public Critiques, Thesis Exhibitions, MFA talks, and all other programmatic events.
Collaborate with the Chairperson in recruiting, selecting, and retaining faculty and staff for the MFA program. Support graduate faculty, including new and visiting faculty: i.e., campus orientation and onboarding, liaising with Pratt offices, including IT, Photo Tech Office, Payroll, and HR.
Coordinate Studio and Gallery support for the MFA program.
Support visiting guest artists and critics. Liaise between all parties for talks, studio visits, and classroom visits.
Support the annual MFA Thesis Exhibitions, which entails scheduling, planning publicity and professional documentation for the creation of public facing promotional materials.
In collaboration with the Technical Director, oversee the functionality of the graduate production facilities and its equipment.
Oversee Graduate Assistants.
Provide administrative support to the graduate program, including coordinating day-to-day activities and tracking budget needs and expenditures.
Perform all other related duties as assigned to support every aspect of the graduate program.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Photography or related discipline is required. MFA or equivalent in art, design, or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience:
At least two years of administrative experience is required; at least 3 years' of academic or higher education administrative experience is preferred.
Skills:
Wide latitude for independent judgment and problem solving.
Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in the practice and education of art and/or design; a strong track record of professional work in art and/or design is preferred. Exhibition history preferred.
Excellent detail-oriented organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop rapport with a diverse faculty and student body.
Other:
In depth knowledge of Apple computers and Adobe systems, digital and analog processes and workflow as well as the ability to manage student workers and coordinate with related staff.
