A postdoctoral associate position is available at Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) to conduct research on a wide range of topics related to computational biomedical engineering. The appointment is for 12 months, with an option for renewal upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Successful applicants would join a team of postdoctoral staff, undergraduate and graduate students advised by Dr. Jingfeng Jiang, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Biocomputing and Digital Health (a joint center affiliated with Health Research Institute and Institute of Computing and Cybernetics). The postdoctoral associate has opportunities to collaborate with clinical collaborators outside Michigan Technological University, notably Betz Family Center for Congenital Heart Health at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The applicant would select research topic(s) working with the supervisor on the following area: • Biomedical Imaging Analysis and Data Analytics, Including Machine Learning • Computer Modeling of Human Physiological Systems • Software Development and Integration with applications in Biomedical analytics

Responsibilities
1. Review and synthesize relevant literature 2. Conduct image analysis, numerical modeling and/or data analysis 3. Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals 4. Disseminate research at national and international conferences 5. Assist in preparing data to secure extramural funding 6. Work with other members of the research team, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research collaborators (inside and outside Michigan Tech) 7. Implement best safety practices and continuous improvement
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Ph.D. in engineering, Applied Math, Physics, Computer/Data/Computational Sciences, or a closely related field.
Required Experience
1. Experience with computerized data analytics 2. Experience with medical imaging and processing 3. Experience and skills in computer coding (e.g., Matlab, Python, C++, etc.)
Desirable Education and/or Experience
1. Experience in computational geometric analysis 2. Extensive Experience and Knowledge in optimization and computer vision 3. Experience in one of the mainstream software packages in computational sciences (e.g., OpenCV, FENiCS, VTK, ITK, 3D Slicer, etc.) 4. Knowledge and experience in computer model development and coding (e.g., Python or C++)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
1. A record of publication(s) in mainstream peer-reviewed journals 2. Knowledge of biomedical research
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
1. Foundational skills in Medical Image Analysis and the utility of computer vision in biomedical applications. 2. Knowledge of Machine learning and its applications in medical imaging 3. Excellent communication skills and abilities to work with multi-disciplinary collaborators 4. Ability to mentor students with diverse backgrounds 5. Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
