Summary of Duties:
This position is responsible for developing and coordinating public relations and communication activities for Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources (CSANR). This includes research, writing and editing articles, news releases, newsletters, brochures, web pages, social media, and other material or projects supporting CSANRs public relations and communication goals. Responsible for strategic engagement through digital media via program websites, social media, blogs, newsletters, annual reports, and promoting the CSANR publications library; researching and writing original content for program blogs, social media, reports, technical memos, and extension materials; promoting programs, projects, and grant opportunities to internal WSU and external audiences; developing and implementing communication strategies; editing and proofreading materials submitted for blog posts, newsletters, and reports; promoting and facilitating internal CSANR communications; creating visual media such as figures, graphics, and design elements; and other duties as required.
Research, Writing, and Social Media | 40%
Produce, develop, research, write, edit, and proofread CSANR program content for use on program websites, social media platforms, blogs, newsletters, CSANR annual report and the CSANR publications library (i.e., promote publications beyond storage in database), and other communications materials for external and internal audiences.
Create figures, graphics, document compilation, and design for visual media.
Curate and pitch story ideas by cultivating and maintaining relationships and effective communications with internal and external constituents.
Develop new and fresh content/materials for placement on the website. Post content to WordPress websites.
Update and monitor all social media content including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blogs, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
Develop communication and marketing plans for assigned areas.
Planning and Promotion | 30%
Supports the development of public relations and communication plans, especially related to digital content (website and social media).
Promote programs, projects, and grant opportunities to internal WSU and external audiences.
Promote and facilitate internal CSANR communication processes and serve as point person for communications with CSANR team.
Develop press releases, media kits, outreach lists, and connections to target media to the most relevant audiences.
Develop communication strategies over the first 6-months to 1-year, with continued efforts in implementation and maintenance.
Content Editing | 15%
Edits news releases, brochures, and various types of content produced by other contributors to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency of communications. Reviews photos and graphics used in various types of content for suitability and quality, advising on placement and use.
Collaboration | 10%
Collaborates with writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, web designers, and other staff within the department, and across CAHNRS, Extension, and WSU.
Other | 5%
Other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or other relevant field AND either two (2) years of professional experience in print OR broadcast news media, public relations, marketing including the use of electronic media or two (2) years of other relevant professional experience.
Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels;
Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity;
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications;
Demonstrated experience communicating about an agriculture, climate, or natural resource topic.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or other relevant field.
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Education or experience in agriculture, climate, or natural resources.
Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
$4,689.05 - $7,033.58 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. This is a temporary position expected to end on December 31, 2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
