The Department of Media Culture at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York seeks to hire an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Communication.
We seek candidates with a strong research agenda, and teaching experience in critical media studies and contemporary practices. This can include expertise on communication and technopolitics; media and BIPOC, LGBTQI+, people with disabilities; multimedia journalism, platformization, gaming, attention economy, digital art and design, streaming culture, influencer culture.
The ideal candidate will teach courses in the Department???s core curriculum, such as communication theory, media analysis, research methods, representation and identity; offer new and innovative courses in one or more of the aforementioned areas. Preference will be given to candidates with professional media experience, creative work, and/or the ability to incorporate multimedia production into their classes.
Appointment will begin August 2025.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Communication or a related field, or M.F.A. focusing on media arts practices. Candidates should have a substantive research agenda and/or creative work, record of teaching, and commitment to curriculum development.
COMPENSATION
$75,456 - $90,375
