Advertisement: The Department of Literature, Language and Writing (LLW) in the School of Humanities, Arts and Sciences at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time (10-month), teaching-emphasis position in the field of Composition and Rhetoric.
Applicants from all writing-related fields are welcome and should expect to teach introductory and upper level courses within the field of writing, including, for example, College Writing, Writing for Writers, and Writing for the Digital Age.
This position will also serve as the Director of Writing Intensive programs at the university. Our faculty support our diverse students who are characteristically passionate about social justice and plan to use their education to lead and influence globally. Though most writing courses are offered in the on-campus baccalaureate women's college, English faculty also teach in the College for Adults in online and hybrid formats. This scholar will be joining an innovative and collaborative faculty of English, Linguistics, and Language professors whose work and teaching emphasizes interdisciplinarity. The English major emphasizes equally requirements in literature, writing, and language studies.
The Literature, Language and Writing (LLW) department offers both a major and minor in English and Spanish, minors in Linguistics, Professional Writing, and Teaching English as a Second Language, and a certificate in Professional Writing. Applicants should be prepared to work collaboratively to support students who are passionate about social justice and plan to use their training to lead and influence. Applicants should also be willing to engage in interdisciplinary teaching.
Responsibilities:
Serving as the Writing Intensive Program Director.
Faculty to teach at most 5 courses in English and/or Writing, at least 1 section of The Reflective Woman, a first year writing intensive seminar class required of all first year students, 1 course release to serve as the Writing Intensive Program Director.
Candidates may also suggest more advanced topics courses that appeal to students from a variety of majors.
Create and lead initiatives for excellence in writing curriculum and pedagogy.
Advise and mentor students.
Contribute to department and university service.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Composition and Rhetoric or a related field or All But Dissertation (ABD) with proof of completion before start.
Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate writing classes to a diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience directing writing intensive or composition program.
Experience teaching first-generation students.
