The Virginia Mason Medical Center PGY2 residency program in ambulatory care is an ASHP accredited second year residency program established in 2018. This program provides residents with robust learning opportunities in both primary care and specialty clinic settings, as well as a focus on leadership development, teaching, population health, specialty pharmacy, and project management. Residents will gain exposure to Virginia Mason’s management philosophy: the Virginia Mason Production System (VMPS).
Residents will be welcomed as part of our growing team of clinic pharmacist providers. Residents will be credentialed and privileged as providers during their residency year. The residents are based at our main Seattle campus and have opportunities for rotations in our multiple regional medical clinics across the greater Seattle area. Program graduates will be prepared to serve as pharmacist providers, independently managing medication therapy for a variety of chronic conditions under collaborative practice agreements. Residents will gain experience developing therapeutic relationships with patients and their caregivers, managing a busy clinic schedule, and devising care plans utilizing shared decision making. Residents will also develop their project management, problem solving, presentation, teaching, and preceptor skills. Our past residents have gone on to accept positions in both primary care clinics and specialty clinics after the conclusion of their residency. Program graduates will advocate for and advance the role of pharmacist providers in the ambulatory setting.
Virginia Mason Medical Center is a non-academic, teaching medical center dedicated to teamwork, innovation, and collaborative care. We have been serving the communities of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest for over 100 years and have a history of developing strong providers.
