Shuttle Meadow Country Club is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Golf Course Agronomist to oversee the health, quality, and maintenance of our golf course turf and landscaping. This individual will also manage and coordinate the new irrigation installation and implementation of the Course Restoration Plan. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of agronomy, strong project management skills, and a passion for elevating the quality and sustainability of our golf course. This individual will work in collaboration with our Golf Course Superintendent to ensure seamless management of our Golf Course Maintenance Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Agronomic Planning and Turf Management
Develop and implement turf management programs, including soil testing, fertilization, irrigation, pest control, and disease prevention, to ensure optimal course conditions.
Monitor and evaluate the health of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and landscaping, making adjustments as needed to maintain playability and aesthetics.
Establish environmentally responsible practices, including water conservation strategies, integrated pest management, and soil health improvement techniques.
Project Management:
Lead and manage the installation of the new irrigation system scheduled to be installed August 2025.
Lead and manage the proposed Master Course Plan including renovations, landscaping, and infrastructure upgrades, from planning through completion.
Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and materials.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and club management to ensure projects meet quality standards, are completed on time, and stay within budget.
Team Collaboration and Supervision:
Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and grounds maintenance staff to develop and execute maintenance schedules.
Provide technical guidance and training staff on agronomic practices and project tasks.
Collaborate with club leadership to develop long-term plans for course improvements, strategic maintenance, and sustainability initiatives.
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to pesticide applications, water usage, and environmental practices.
Maintain documentation of chemical applications, environmental practices, and safety protocols.
Promote environmentally sustainable practices to enhance the natural surroundings of the course.
Member Relations:
Collaborate with the Green Committee, Golf Professional and Club Manager to address member feedback, coordinate special events, and communicate course-related updates.
Provide members with insights into the course’s condition and planned maintenance schedules.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field; advanced certifications in golf course agronomy are a plus.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in golf course management, with project management experience strongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of soil science, plant health, pest management, and turfgrass species.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance agronomic responsibilities and project management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with teams, vendors, and club members.
Proficiency in project management software and tools is an asset.
GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America) certification preferred.
Valid Connecticut pesticide applicator’s license.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
This is a full-time, year-round position.
Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including weekends and holidays as needed.
Physical requirements include walking, standing, and operating equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and terrain.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and engage in physical labor as needed
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. Range: $115,000 to $150,000
