Teaching Support Specialist
The Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) is a unit in the Office of the Vice-Provost for Academic Innovation (VPAI). The CTI partners with the Cornell teaching community to explore and foster inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices. We facilitate the development of vibrant, challenging and reflective student-centered learning experiences. The Opportunity
The Teaching Support Specialist (TSS) will work under the leadership of an Associate Director of the Center for Teaching Innovation and will deepen pedagogical development for teachers at all stages of their career, with a particular focus on graduate students. The TSS will work to promote inclusive, evidence-based, and innovative teaching throughout the university. They will collaborate with colleagues and with CTI Graduate Teaching Fellows to develop, implement, and assess programs that support the development and deepening of teaching skills for graduate students and prepare them for careers as future faculty.
The teaching support specialist will work with the CTI's Graduate Program to support all graduate teaching assistants and contribute to CTI's faculty development initiatives supporting CTI's mid-semester feedback program.
In this role, candidates can expect to:
- Design, develop and facilitate a range of teaching development programs for graduate students, including workshops, institutes, learning communities and department collaborations.
- Contribute to the administration and evaluation of graduate programming at Cornell. Additional responsibilities may include developing and teaching courses on pedagogy in higher education.
- Support CTI's mid-semester feedback program, course observations, department workshops, individual consultations, and other efforts
The Center is a large, highly collaborative group, and the TSS will interact with colleagues who have a wide range of skills and experiences.
This position has the option for a hybrid work arrangement: 3 days in person and 2 days work from home. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

The successful candidate must have:
- Master's degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience, including higher education teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of current educational practices in faculty and graduate student development, teaching, and assessment.
- Proven collaboration and communication skills.
- Experience participating in or working with graduate training programs.
If you possess these experiences this may be the role for you! In addition, having a PhD. and teaching experience in higher education as the instructor of record would be viewed as incredibly helpful in this role.
