Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Career Development is an integral member of the Center for Career Engagement (CCE) team. This individual serves as a career coach for students and recent alumni who are in the PhD & Postdoctoral Scholars Career Community. Specifically, a candidate will work closely with students enrolled in PhD programs and Postdoctoral appointments. The role involves developing and delivering focused programming in close collaboration with employer engagement and academic partnerships within the CCE. Additionally, this position requires working alongside key stakeholders to empower students, helping them establish and manage their career paths.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide individual career coaching for PhD and Postdoctoral scholars: one-on-one (virtual and in person), via email, telephone â“ and in group/class settings. Areas for guidance include career exploration, job, transitional program and internship searches, networking, interviewing, resume, cover letter, salary negotiations, and workplace etiquette. Provide follow-up with students. Document advising notes.
Collaborate with the Associate Director of the PhD & Postdoctoral Scholars Career Community in addition to cross-functional teams within the CCE to develop and implement a strategic plan and year-round tactics to educate and prepare this focused population of graduate students for lifelong career planning; work closely with university departments and faculty to identify opportunities for integrated programming/group setting to economize time and contextualize career education within the studio/classroom.
Work within the PhD & Postdoctoral Scholars Career Community to research, develop, publish, and promote content to resonate with the needs of this particular student population.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
A graduate degree may be required depending upon school and/or student's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in social sciences or STEM fields or terminal degree in education, library sciences or related fields.
Experience working with international students and/or under-resourced students is desirable.
Six years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Career Development & Planning, Career Coaching/Counseling/Advising, or Training and Development.
Demonstrated stellar interpersonal skills needed, as well as strong skills in relationship-building, advising, organization, leadership, and creative thinking.
Demonstrated client/peer relationship management skills and orientation.
Ability to problem solve and work with little supervision while depending on collaboration across a matrixed organization to achieve success; strong initiative and follow-through.
Demonstrated ability to build highly effective curricula and programming.
Outstanding communication skills, both one-on-one and in small and large groups.
Demonstrated project management ability.
Agility and adaptability.
Experience in a design related field; proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
Willingness to travel up to 15% of time.

Salary Range
$53,100.00 - $90,600.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
