Summary | As a member of the Media Technology Services team, the Senior Media Systems Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, procurement, installation, programming, implementation, maintenance, support, and periodic operation of university media technology systems. The systems include Crestron, Q-SYS and Extron controlled audio/visual systems, video streaming systems, IP video production facilities, digital signage systems and DSP enabled audio systems in classrooms, conference rooms, entertainment venues, and research facilities. Additionally, assist in the creation of technical documentation as needed. | Responsibilities | • Create complex A/V designs (to include control, video, audio, and networking schematics) as part of engineering design packages that include blended learning facilities as well as advanced multimedia enabled research, large venue, and presentation facilities • Provide hands-on installation and technical support during the installation and maintenance of these facilities as necessary • Generate a list of materials, budgets, and requests for proposals/quotations • Collaborate with campus representatives such as facility engineers, IT engineers, faculty, staff, and students during the planning and development of new buildings and the renovation of existing facilities • Ensure the technical integrity, performance, reliability, and user friendliness of supported systems. Required to conduct usability studies to support this goal. • Stay up to date on developments of industry technologies, maintain current technical knowledge, maintain a high level of competency with blended learning technologies, and provide recommendations for modifications and improvements of methods, procedures, and techniques • Maintain technical expertise, certifications, and current knowledge for video industry best practices and technology, and act as the University’s technical resource for technologies in assigned field. Recommend modifications or changes that will improve efficiency and/or effectiveness. • Assist with the training of student employees and peers on internal processes and technology used and/or implemented • Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives. • Other duties as assigned. • Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work | Required Education, Certifications, Licensures | • Bachelor’s degree in electronics technology, computer networking and system administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired | Required Experience | • Two to three years demonstrated experience in complex A/V or broadcast media system design, installation and maintenance or comparable experience • Two years of experience performing vendor management of media system procurement for consulting, design, negotiation, installation, and support. This can be concurrent with other experience.
| Desirable Education and/or Experience | • Experience with blended learning technologies such as Echo360, Mediasite, Panopto, Zoom or similar technologies • Q-SYS programming certification(s) • Crestron programming certification(s) • Experience working with facility engineers, trades staff, faculty, staff, and students in higher education • Demonstrated skills of conceptual thinking, leadership, and consensus building • Experience writing request for proposals for complex A/V or broadcast systems • Advanced hardware and software problem solving skills • Comprehensive knowledge of IT networking and security principles • Experience creating system documentation with AutoCAD, Visio or similar products • Familiarity with managing and using various SaaS system i.e., digital signage, Zoom, streaming CDNs • ICIA, CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, BIAMP certifications • Experience with IT project management • Experience using Helpdesk/Issue Management software
