Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Philanthropy, the Director of Development and Major Gifts will lead a team of Regional Development Officers, manage all facets of major gifts through the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship stages, and facilitate strategic, sustainable relationships with alumnae, current parents, past parents, and other key constituencies.
The Director of Development and Major Gifts leads the securing and stewarding of private gifts by expanding major and planned gift work through a regional model, focusing specifically on raising support for funding priorities in support of the Scripps College strategic plan.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Major Gift Fundraising
Responsible for independently performing identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects with an emphasis on strategy and metrics.
Successfully solicit, through written proposals, a minimum number of major gifts, annual fund, capital, current-use college priorities, endowed, life income, and estate gifts.
Facilitate relationships between potential and current donors and the Scripps College Development team, and actively engage faculty and administrators in fundraising opportunities.
Maintain an active schedule of contacts, solicitations, and stewardship activities for a body of key prospects, primarily individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Conduct a minimum of 120 personal visits during academic year with donors, prospective donors, and their advisors to solicit planned gifts and major gifts, manage a portfolio of 75-100 active donors and prospects, traveling locally, regionally, and nationally, as appropriate for donor management.
Report and track fundraising progress using contact reports, prospect management, and other communication tools to ensure efficient and effective communication.
Successfully solicit a minimum number of major gifts annually through written proposals.
Donor Engagement, Stewardship and Strategy Development
Develop and engage volunteers, donors, and colleagues in productive long-term relationships.
Partner with colleagues in donor relations, corporate and foundation relations, annual giving, planned giving, and engagement programs to reach out to constituents in each area.
Develop and execute engagement and stewardship plans for specific assigned prospects.
Provide strategic direction for assigned fundraising priorities, tasks, projects, and programs and plan strategies for priority prospects.
Sustain annual fundraising production with goals established annually.
Perform and evaluate fundraising tasks and/or projects for the College.
Develop prospect management schedules and oversee the development of moves management processes for college advancement officers.
Measurement and Analysis
Develop goals and metrics to measure outcomes of new and existing strategies for use in external and internal reporting.
Understand the College's current database and database strategy.
Analyze patterns of indirect fundraising strategies on alumnae participation.
Assist Associate Vice President with budget planning and development by providing historical data and future projections, including generating financial and analytical reports.
Communication/Collaboration
Work with regional development officers and other members of the ERIA team to appropriately identity and solicit additional Annual Fund and major gift prospects.
Work with the alumnae engagement team to recruit and develop parent, volunteers, and representatives for the College's parent and alumni constituencies.
Collaborate with Director of Leadership Annual Giving and Scripps Fund to coordinate annual solicitations through direct mail, email, social media, and personal contact with donors.
Develop and manage individual and major gifts team travel budget annually, professional development, and mentoring including regional advancement officers.
Performs other related duties and other special projects as priorities shift.

Preferred knowledge of industry best practices in higher-education or other non-profits.
Knowledge and experience with social media strategy and trends.
Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience with CRM databases, 3rd party e-mail clients, and other graphic design software preferred.
Ability and willingness to travel.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in a related field; or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.
Minimum 5 years of experience in non-profit fundraising, secondary or higher education development, and/or a related field development experience, including annual campaigns is preferred.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a regular status, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt position.
The regular hours for this full-time position are Monday â“ Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Hours will vary due to the needs of the department or College.
Must be available to work nights and weekends. Travel for multiple days is a requirement of the position.
Salary range: $110,000 to $125,500.00 annualized. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervises advancement officers and an administrative assistant.
