JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
Magellan International School has an opening for a full-time Innovation, Design & Technology Teacher. This position will work closely with the Innovation Team, Heads of Sections, and International Baccalaureate (IB) Program Coordinators to implement the school's maker-centered learning program and to expand technology course offerings at the Secondary level. This position will teach design, innovation and technology classes to Upper Primary and Secondary school students. Essential Functions
Foster students' development of a maker mindset by incorporating a variety of frameworks including maker-centered learning, tinkering, and design thinking in the classroom.
Instruct, demonstrate, and model for students the safety and basic use of a variety of hand, powered, and digital fabrication tools.
Lead students through an inquiry-based exploration of materials and construction techniques.
Meaningfully integrate literacy, design, and making across grade levels.
Collaborate with the Innovation team to develop lesson/activity plans guided by the daily schedule.
Guide peers through various innovation frameworks and challenge habitual ways of thinking.
Encourage a school culture of inquiry, innovation, creativity and engagement.
Collaborate with the Innovation team and the Secondary team to identify and implement new technology course offerings such as robotics, programming, web design and digital media production.
Act as a sounding board for teachers to test and explore new solutions and options, and give advice based on their experience.
Collaborate with the Innovation team to prepare and facilitate innovation workshops, and/or report on new ideas learned through professional development, workshops, and conferences.
Effectively communicate information and respond to questions from children, parents, colleagues, administrators, and visitors.

Make presentations to parents as needed.
Attends parent meetings when required.
Communicates and collaborates with parents of high needs students.
Community
Participates in fundraising and marketing efforts to support the growth of our non-profit, independent school.
Identifies local community offerings and communicates opportunities to school community
Creates and maintains connections with relevant community resources

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in technology or educational field
A minimum of two years of teaching' experience
Experience using innovation frameworks and maker-centered pedagogies
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
Experience in integrating IT with teaching
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and planning, child development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management and assessment
Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment
Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning
Ability to collaborate with parents
Technical Skill Requirements
A willingness to learn a variety of innovation-related skills including programming, electronics, 3D design and printing, laser cutting, as well as hand and power tools and the maker-centered pedagogies that support their use in schools.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office as well as a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers and requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
“Core” work hours:
Mondays: 8:15 am to 5:30 pm
Tuesdays to Fridays: 8:15 am to 4:15 pm
Availability during occasional nights and weekend events
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position, to include fingerprinting at the expense of the applicant, if no record exists for the applicant in the Texas Department of Public Services database. CPR/First Aid and Mandated Reporting Certificates will also be required for any employees working with students. These fees will be paid by Magellan or reimbursed upon completion of the required training.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9. You will be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Documents need to be presented no later than the third day of employment. Failure to do so will result in loss of employment at the school.
