Instructional Technologist - Educational Support Services
The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks an Instructional Technologist to join the Educational Support Services (ESS) team. The Instructional Technologist will draw upon their expertise, creativity, and experience to work with faculty across the college and collaborate with the ESS team to support teaching and learning technologies and the development of technology-enhanced learning resources to support the mission of the College. The delivery of these engaging learning resources are made possible by the contributions of a unique and talented team with expertise in the areas of instructional design, audio-video production, medical illustrations/animations, computer programming, web-based development, and project management.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with management of the College's Canvas sub-account, and perform administrative responsibilities
- Write and maintain detailed how-to tutorials for the ESS Knowledge Base website (wordpress site) for all ESS-supported technologies and maintain other ESS controlled web pages.
- Assist the DVM Curriculum Manager with curriculum re-design, and Art Director with design, production, and implementation of learning resources and courses for professional degree (DVM, PhD, MPH, MPS), international, and continuing education programs.
- Work with Art Director, ESS staff, and CVM faculty to create a wide variety of technology-enhanced educational resources in support of programs in the professional degree (DVM, PhD, MPH, MPS), international, and continuing education programs.
- Maintain fluency with current best practices in instructional technologies, learning theory, and learning practices in higher education, web development technologies, and related practices and processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of instructional technology experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in Canvas or similar LMS.
- Experience authoring learning content in Articulate Rise, Storyline, H5P, Canvas or similar applications.
- Knowledge of current and emerging learning technologies, including practices, theories, and emerging trends that support teaching and learning
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative, and ability to learn new skills.
- Experience in graphic design, branding, and digital media and related tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
- Demonstrated excellent communication (written and oral) ability to explain technical information to non-technical staff.
- Strong organizational skills as well as responsive customer-service orientation and excellent interpersonal communications skills are required.
- Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven, complex, team-based environment with multiple competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as account or sub-account admin within Canvas LMS
- Experience developing online courses for corporate clients or continuing education markets.
- Knowledge of evidence-based teaching methods and familiarity with research literature on teaching and learning.
- Developer skills: Some baseline knowledge of programming in HTML & CSS is highly desired
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Important Details about the Position
- This is a hybrid position located in Ithaca, NY with the expectation of 1 day onsite per week with additional days as required
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
- Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
