Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown.Communications Infrastructure Management is responsible for the design and build of complete connectivity solutions and cable plants for voice, data, and video. The team retrofits new infrastructure into existing facilities; cuts over production systems and decommissions legacy systems. This team also leads cabling and infrastructure installation, configuration, and maintenance. Position Summary
The Communications Infrastructure Specialist will be responsible for maintaining campus copper and fiber structured cable systems. This would include monitoring capacity and usage, conducting scheduled audits, coordinating routine maintenance, updating cable records, ensuring adherence to established standards, and providing project and incident/outage support by creating reports, analyzing data, and providing recommendations.
The Communications Infrastructure Specialist will coordinate and be responsible for the fulfillment of fiber circuit services in accordance with established procedures and instructions. This includes the creation of service orders, the assignment of circuit IDs, scheduling, coordinating access, reviewing test results, and communicating with customers and other stakeholders. They will plan and execute work activities and tasks to ensure on time delivery of project objectives. Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager. The Communications Infrastructure Specialist will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. Three years experience working in one or more of the following fields: network services, communications infrastructure management, fiber and cabling, information technology, or a related field. (Required)
Knowledge and hands-on experience with fiber optic technology, including installation, repair, and maintenance of fiber and cabling systems, using an OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer). (Required)
Demonstrated experience in monitoring and managing service level agreements (SLAs), including tracking performance metrics, adherence to response times, and resolution targets. (Required)
Five or more years experience working in one or more of the following fields: network services, communications infrastructure management, fiber and cabling, information technology. (Preferred)
Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
Familiarity with network infrastructure components, including fiber backbone and circuit pathways, to effectively establish and manage circuit paths. (Required)
Ability to create, implement, and update comprehensive inspection processes and checklists to ensure all technical services are executed to the highest quality standards. (Required)
Proven ability to maintain high customer satisfaction. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that requires a minimum of three days per week onsite (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).
The anticipated pay range for this position is $83,800 - $84,500, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
