The position will support faculty on research opportunities and help coordinate events and college research-focused activities. Work includes managing workshop events and writing materials for proposed activities, among other duties. The incumbent will have independent responsibility for managing the coordination of these events, including managing logistics and scheduling, interacting with speakers, and designing digital and/or print-based communications and other associated materials.

Independent responsibility, in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Research and other key affiliates, for managing the planning, creation, and coordination of research activities in COEIT. The staff member will: coordinate with speakers; manage logistics; plan and direct the content, design, and dissemination of event-related digital and/or print-based communications and other materials; and, assess and evaluate event attendance and success using participant evaluations and other metrics.
In discussion with Associate Dean for Research and in collaboration with department chairs, faculty, and university partners, develop and execute outreach research activities, support students in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) experiences, workshops sponsored by federal agencies, and college research events.
Collaborating with Grant Writer to develop research activity write ups as needed, such as write ups for REU supplements supporting existing National Science Foundation (NSF) grants based on example templates.
Organize, facilitate, and/or develop sponsored research related training, workshops for faculty, and other research administration staff.
Plan, implement, and coordinate visits for prospective partners.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education Required: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a STEM or related scientific discipline. Degrees in English, Communications, Business Administration, or other related fields may also be considered.
Experience Required:
Any combination of experience equivalent to two years in the areas of research activities organization.
Strong problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively.
Ability to understand, interpret, and execute complex instructions.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Excellent written communication and customer service skills.
Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems.
High level of experience with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc).
Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Be available for occasional weekend travel and work evening hours based on events and have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education Preferred: Master's degree, preferably in a STEM or related scientific discipline. Degrees in English, Communications, Business Administration, or other related fields may also be considered.
Experience Preferred:
A strong understanding of and experience in the higher education research activities
Experience working in a non-profit or higher education setting
Demonstrated ability to coordinate the planning and execution of events effectively
Familiarity with federal funding agencies
Experience coordinating, developing, and/or delivering training
Tuition remission at UMBC for eligible dependents after two years of FT employment

Salary: $53,500 - $60,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
