The Assistant Operations Manager for the School of the Arts provides primary support for the Simons Center Recital Hall and all school events presented by Dean’s Office.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree preferred or a minimum of two years of related experience in the areas of the arts or events management. Education and/or experience in the performing/creative arts and/or arts management are strongly preferred. Experience in higher education and the policies and best practices of events management for campus communities is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding/knowledge of Federal, South Carolina and College of Charleston Foundation laws, policies and procedures and best practices pertaining to facilities and venue management. The ability to coordinate complex administrative/management activities is essential. Understanding of Theatre and Music Technical needs is essential. IT and AV experience related to the function of performance venues is preferable. Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty/staff and constituents along with the ability to supervise others and to shift priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented workplace is required. Demonstrated ability to express written and verbal thoughts with clarity and to share appropriate information/actively listen to and seek information from others is necessary.

Requires occasional night and weekend hours.

Serve as Technical Director for the Simons Center Recital Hall and work closely with the Department of Music to ensure that the department’s productions have the professional support to present high caliber performances within the space. Works directly with Music Department’s faculty and staff to plan the performance and rehearsal dates for the season to ensure academic programming needs are met. Provides consistent and timely information to the department about any facilities projects concerning the Recital Hall.

Works in tandem with the Operations Manager and Chief Recruitment Officer to maintain facilities and oversee any facilities work/ upgrades within the performance venues. Manages maintenance projects and works with facilities to ensure that work order requests are completed with attention to the purpose of the venue. Provides information about ongoing projects to the Dean and Operations Manager. Works with facilities, IT, and vendors to schedule projects on timelines that ensure the venues are accessible and operable at critical times of the year.

Serves as Technical Director for all events hosted by the Dean’s Office. This includes student, faculty and donor events throughout the year. Works closely with the Director of Donor Relations and Special Events and the Assistant to the Dean to ensure that A/V and tech needs are in place for these events.

Ensures that the digital signage in the school’s buildings is working properly and accurately display important information.

Serves as a primary contact for inquiries about venues managed by the Dean’s Office and ensures that reservations are made through the campus room reservation system. Serves as on-site venue manager for events coordinated by other campus departments and organizations in the school’s facilities. Works with other campus offices to facilitate building usage by off campus groups according to the policies of the College. Communicates with Public Safety to ensure that the security plan for all events follows College policies and procedures.
