The Human Rights Resiliency Project (HRRP) at the Human Rights Institute, Columbia Law School seeks a dynamic and creative Staff Associate to manage a project to improve wellbeing and mental health in the human rights field. HRRP is a globally-recognized project to advance wellbeing among human rights advocates and has produced significant research to advance understanding of wellbeing.

The successful candidate will work with leading advocates and mental health professionals on a foundation-funded project to build peer-to-peer wellbeing programs for human rights advocates. This multi-year project focuses on strengthening human rights movements and the individuals who carry out human rights work through the co-creation of mental health and wellbeing initiatives across several contexts and organizations.

The outcomes of this work will lead to the documentation, knowledge sharing, and implementation of strategies that can support the wellbeing of individuals, movements, and communities engaged in human rights work. Current case studies in the project are focused on Uganda, Indonesia, Yemen, and the United States.

In particular, the incumbent will:

• Serve as a key contributor to all phases of project development and delivery; collect and compile data, and contribute to the drafting of analysis and reports.
• Provide overall management of the project, including managing multiple sub-projects, teams, timelines, outputs, and tasks, as well as developing strategy, creating plans, providing direction for the team on task completion, managing team meetings, memorializing decisions, drafting progress reports, monitoring tasks and deliverables and deadlines, and creating project plans and timelines.
• Build relationships and collaborate frequently with the HRRP team and various international human rights and mental health partners to successfully develop and implement projects.
• Assist with the financial management of the grant.

This is a 2 year position, with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants for the position should have a bachelor?s degree with either an advanced degree or equivalent relevant experience in a related field (e.g., M.A. or experience in psychology or public health, or J.D. or experience in human rights).

• With BA -- a minimum of 4 years working in human rights and mental health or wellbeing
• With MA or JD -- a minimum of 2 years working in human rights and mental health or wellbeing

This position also requires a willingness to work in a highly interdisciplinary, flexible, and dynamic environment. Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, the ability to manage collaborative projects in domains related to human rights and mental health or wellbeing. The role also requires effective oral and written communication, well-honed interpersonal skills and the desire to coordinate a large team, proven project management experience and skill, and outstanding organizational skills.
