Job Description:
The Director of Student Access and Compliance Services will lead and manage student disability and support services at Kansas City University, a graduate health professions institution. The primary role of the Director will be to oversee student access and accommodation services, processes, and training. Secondarily, this role also involves structuring and overseeing programs related to student compliance matters, including background checks, student health insurance, and other program and clinical requirements. Student Disability and Support Services:
- Oversee and manage services for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to support students' academic success and accessibility, and related document management
- Collaborate with academic administration, faculty, and staff to provide training and to ensure effective implementation for accommodations and support
- Supervise staff performing related functions
Student Compliance Program:
- Design and implement a comprehensive process for compliance and contractual requirements with entities providing clinical education opportunities
- Design and oversee processes for background checks, student health insurance, and other similar matters
- Ensure all compliance activities align with institutional policies and legal requirements
Leadership, Program Development, Assessment, and Innovation:
- Continuously assess and improve accessibility services and compliance programs to meet evolving student needs and regulatory requirements
- Identify and implement innovative solutions to enhance student support and streamline compliance processes, including use of technology options to drive these solutions
- Collaborate with university leadership to align programs with institutional goals and priorities
- Develop strategies to improve service delivery and student satisfaction.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability
Administration, Collaboration, and Reporting:
- Work closely with the Vice Provost, Student Services, and the Chief Compliance Officer
- Provide regular updates and reports on program effectiveness and compliance status
- Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration on access and compliance issues
- Contribute to relevant budget processes and utilize resources effectively;
- Supervise and develop staff within the department
Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver training programs for staff and students on disability services and compliance requirements
- Promote awareness and understanding of accessibility and compliance issues within the university community
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Master's degree in a related field
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in student services, disability support, and/or higher education compliance
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to disability services
- Proven experience in student services, compliance, or a related field within higher education, with experience in graduate-level health professions education preferred
- Strong understanding of disability services and compliance requirements in an educational context, including experiential learning contexts
- Ability to review contracts, laws, and other requirements and develop responsive programs and processes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with a customer-oriented approach
- Ability to innovate and develop programs that meet institutional goals and student needs, including effectively using technology to drive excellence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with implementing digital accessibility standards in course content
- Familiarity with programs that have clinical components and the accommodations required in those settings
- Experience with academic programs that have patient care requirements and experiences
- Proficiency in developing and documenting technical standards and learning outcomes in collaboration with academic professionals
- Proven track record of implementing technology solutions for case management and training programs
