Job Description:
Accountable for the extensive supervision, enhancement, and maintenance of landscaping and grounds maintenance of the Trinity University campus, adjacent residential properties and athletic fields. Merges creative landscape design with effective grounds maintenance management, guaranteeing that the campus continues to be an attractive, sustainable, and operational space for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Closely collaborates with various University departments and entities and plays a vital role in conveying the goals and mission of Facilities Services to the University community. Ensures that the University adheres to all federal, state, and local regulations concerning Facilities Services operations.
JOB DUTIES
Manages general campus maintenance activities include mowing, trimming, blowing, leaf collection, power washing, and litter removal. Cares and maintains all campus grounds, landscaping, and the grounds of Trinity owned residential properties.
Accountable for the care and maintenance of grounds, parking lots, walkways, driveways, athletic fields, landscaping, and paving projects as assigned. This includes overseeing arborist activities, managing waste removal, supervising container contracts, and ensuring the proper care of the University's extensive tree inventory.
Communicates and provides direction to staff regarding daily assignments. Supervises staff in the field to offer guidance and ensure that tasks are completed within a reasonable timeframe.
Directs, coordinates and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels and disciplines employees; and addresses complaints and resolves problems.
Manages the care and maintenance of all University grounds equipment. Evaluates, plans, and coordinates grounds activities. Assigns manpower and grounds care equipment.
Responsible for managing the installation and maintenance of all campus irrigation systems and the proper maintenance for all campus exterior water features.
Assists with managing the campus sustainability program. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the campus-wide recycling program. Manages exterior pest control through regular inspections, implementing preventive measures, and developing strategies to mitigate pest activity. Ensures effective treatment and control methods are applied while complying with relevant regulations.
Responsible for developing and implementing annual color planting programs, seasonal plant selections, and design layouts that align with university events, celebrations, and branding initiatives.

Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION
Required:
Associate's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, or related field.
Experience above what is minimally required may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in landscape design and grounds keeping management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Proven expertise in sustainable landscape practices and integrated pest management.
Preferred:
Ten years' experience in landscape design and grounds keeping management, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
Knowledge of the concept, principles and practices of management.
Knowledge of processes, procedures and methods used in facilities operations.
Must be able to review and understand financial statements and reports.
Ability to train and supervise employees.
Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse audiences.
Ability to proceed on own initiative within policy limits set by supervisor.
Comprehensive understanding of plant materials and the principles of developing and maintaining a landscape and grounds plan for the entire University.
In-depth knowledge of the functions, resources, and capabilities related to the various skills, personnel, equipment, and materials assigned to this unit, along with an extensive understanding of the proper equipment usage.
Proficient in interpreting institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules, and regulations and conveying those interpretations to subordinates and other stakeholders.
Capable of preparing and presenting detailed reports, including recommendations based on the findings.
