Position Summary:
The Katz School of Science and Health is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator to work in our Physician Assistant Studies program. Responsibilities include development of course syllabi; instruction, mentorship, and remediation of didactic and clinical year students; coordinating student clinical placements and activities; recruitment of clinical sites; evaluation of clinical course success and student learning outcomes; student recruitment and retention; and University, School, and Departmental committee service.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Teaching both lectures and laboratories
Developing and writing syllabi for PA coursework
Providing remediation instruction to ensure student success
Advising students
Assisting with evaluation of the Clinical Education curriculum
Developing and maintaining clinical sites in collaboration with the Clinical Education Director
Helping negotiate the clinical schedules with the various clinical sites
Initiating and maintaining verification and documentation of all clinical site requirements such as Affiliation Agreements, Preceptor Profiles/Practice Profiles, Licensure and Board Certification verification, Criminal Background Checks, immunization records and other site required documentation
Initiating and managing the development, implementation and assessment of academic performance evaluations within the clinical phase of education (Clinical Rotation assignments, PACKRAT, End of Rotation Exams, Summative Exam and OSCE examinations)
Coordinating and conducting clinical site visits for PA students during clinical rotations site evaluations with preceptors
Monitoring students' progress during clinical rotations, and End of Rotation Exams, and working with the faculty who evaluate and create remediation work as necessary
Ensuring compliance with educational and learning objectives during the clinical phase of the program
Troubleshooting concerns related to clinical year students and/or clinical sites and preceptors
Helping coordinate Call Back Week activities with clinical faculty
Assisting in the development and implementation of the Summative Evaluation course
Participating in program self-assessment and ARC-PA accreditation maintenance and future site visits
Participating in student recruitment and retention activities
Performing other duties as assigned by the Program Director
Experience & Educational Background:
If a Physician Assistant, a Master's degree is required, as well as the following:
Current PA national certification (candidate is required to maintain certification throughout employment)
Eligibility for licensure in NYS
Minimum of two years clinical experience
Higher education teaching experience preferred
Experience as clinical preceptor preferred
