Financial and Capital Budget Analyst
This position is located on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca, New York. You will be expected to work in Ithaca, although you may be permitted to perform a portion of your work remotely.

The University Budget Office, overseen by the Division of Budget and Planning (DBP), works with units across the university to develop, report and implement the Ithaca campus operating budget.
The Division of Budget and Planning is comprised of several service units to oversee campus-wide operations and services, including the University Budget Office, Institutional Research and Planning and Capital & Space Planning. The Division provides proactive tools and information in support of university priorities and functions and Cornell's land-grant mission and carries out these functions with professional, balanced, and timely analyses of data, processes, and choices. What you will do:
Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Financial and Capital Budget Analyst is a member of a four-person team within the University Division of Budget and Planning, a team responsible for key areas within the Division including providing strategic analysis to the Vice President for Budget and Planning in support of the VP's Board of Trustees presentations, Provost initiatives and University Priorities along with supporting the team's work on the University capital budget, University 10-year financial model, maintenance of the long-term investment pool payout model, and University fund balance reporting.
This team is often required to perform in-depth analysis of appropriate data relevant to financial issues and processes as directed by the Vice President for Budget and Planning, and this position will play a key role in gathering and interpreting that data.
Other position responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining a University 10 Year Financial Model
- Assisting and coordinating with Colleges and Units to develop their own long-range modeling and plans.
- Assists with the compilation of the annual capital budget and five-year capital plan, supporting leadership within the Division of Budget and Planning in preparing analyses and reports, identifying and predicting trends, gathering data and providing analytical support for other special projects.
- Close collaboration with Plant Accounting, the University Treasury Office and the Director of Capital and Space Planning, Colleges/Units, Project Managers, and University Budget Office Leadership to ensure the University's capital projects are accurately reported on and captured across all systems at the University.
- Performing analysis on individual Colleges and Unit
What is required:
- Associate's degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
- Demonstrated experience using reasoning skills and sound judgment.
- Organized with ability to independently plan and prioritize responsibilities to meet competing deadlines while working under pressure.
- Business, analytical and reporting skills, which includes demonstrated experience utilizing advanced spreadsheets and databases (Excel, Access, OAS), as well as generating reports from complex financial data applications.
- Strong customer service and communications skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and concisely in verbal and written formats and ability to work as part of a team with high ethical standards including maintaining confidentiality.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Applications, specifically Excel and Access.
- Working knowledge of Tableau.
- Familiarity and working knowledge of Cornell accounting and budgeting systems and various data marts and data warehouses such as, Kuali Financial Systems, KDW, OAS and Longview Solutions preferred.
