The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track (annual), Assistant Professor of Emerging Media and Technology position.
The role of Assistant Professor of Emerging Media and Technology will be a new media scholar in the social sciences with a PhD in communication or media studies who specialize in emerging media, with topic interdisciplinary research areas that could include human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, search engines, gaming, and related developments.
This position is part of a multi-disciplinary investment in the College to strengthen capacity for large-scale, interdisciplinary, cutting-edge research in emerging media and technology through tenure line hires. Consistent with OSU's new Strategic Plan, this line is one of two previous and two current tenure-line searches that support building transdisciplinary teams in areas of strategic focus and turning our foundational strengths into accelerated applications with far-reaching, lasting public value. We welcome new colleagues who can help define big discoveries that drive big solutions, in areas such as but not limited to robotics, AI, telehealth care, biotechnology, ethics, data science, and diversity science.
The School of Communication is comprised of the New Media Communications and Speech Communication programs. The two programs include two undergraduate on-campus degrees, an online degree in Digital Communication Arts, and a BFA. The School also includes one MA/MS program in Communication Studies.
The School of Communication features multiple research labs with support for production work in video, sound, animation, gaming, and virtual reality as well as user research. Our support for research with emerging technologies is among the strongest in the region if not the country.
