The opportunity:
The position is responsible for the repair and preventative maintenance of portable and installed audio-visual systems in lecture theatres, classrooms, labs and any other presentation spaces at the university. This Technician participates in the design, fabrication and installation of integrated audio visual systems and equipment, cabling, components and related devices. As part of the classroom upgrading design process, the technician may participate in planning meetings with architects, designers, faculty members, university staff, the Physical Plant staff and external contractors and trades persons. The technician maybe required to provide input on design, implementation, and recommend suitable and current products to the Manager.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
Bachelor's degree, or completion of a community college diploma (minimum two years) in electronics technology, is required.
Extron certifications CTS and CTI are required.
Training in electronic and mechanical repairs is required.
Dante certification is an asset.
Three years directly related job experience in audio visual equipment maintenance is required.
Extron product experience is required.
Experience in training individuals and small groups on use of software and hardware is required.
AV systems design experience is required.
Network experience is required.
Audio tech experience is an asset.
AI experience is an asset.
Cabling experience is an asset.
ITIL experience is an asset.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
General computer, operating systems, word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software, trouble-shooting abilities on electronic components and electronic integrated systems, is required.
Effective customer service orientation is required.
Intermediate Extron programming skills are required.
Adept skills in audio-visual, and production electronic technologies is required, including demonstrating troubleshooting processing, substituting appropriate pieces, and understanding what limits and/or capabilities are reduced with different pieces required.
AV room system enhancements (identifying, designing, installation, and testing) is required.
Must be familiar with most signal streams, analog and digital, video and audio, as well as processing points, and common diagnostically outcomes, with the ability to tell what is wrong by looking and/or listening.
Must be able to maintain AV equipment, focusing on general AV equipment, systems, and devices.
Must be able to perform repair and preventative maintenance on the unit inventory of portable and installed A-V equipment, such as removing and re-wiring for temporary repair, and component board level repair and/or diagnostic.
Ability to test individual AV components and integrated room systems are required.
Participation in the design, fabrication and installation of integrated AV systems, equipment, cabling, components, and related devices is asset.
Ability to create designs and fabricates devices using accepted practices is an asset.
Ability to manage an AV equipment inventory is an asset.
Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
