The College of Computing at Michigan Technological University invites applications for four tenure-track faculty positions in the broad areas of cybersecurity and computer science. Primary consideration will be for applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor, although applicants with the experience and accomplishments commensurate with a higher rank may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. We encourage applicants in all research areas of computer science, especially those with expertise in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software engineering, data science, and systems. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for their research, an enthusiasm for undergraduate and graduate education, and a strong commitment to cultivating diverse and inclusive environments. The anticipated start date is August 2025.

Three of the positions are expected to have primary appointments in Computer Science and one in Applied Computing. Joint appointments are possible when appropriate.
Responsibilities
1. Develop a vigorous externally funded research program in areas of interest while fostering internal and external collaborations. 2. Engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship while maintaining a high level of student engagement. 3. Participate in service activities at the department, college, and university level, as well as in professional organizations and societies. 4. Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Earned doctorate in computer science, cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline at the time of employment.
Required Experience
Successful applicants must have a record of scholarship in computer science or a closely related field. Applicants for senior positions must have an established record of teaching, research, and service that aligns with the expectations of the rank.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
1. Teaching experience at the university level. 2. Experience with the development of externally funded grant proposals. 3. Demonstrated activity within professional organizations related to the applicant’s research area(s). 4. Translational and/or entrepreneurial experience in areas of research expertise.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Successful applicants must have: 1. Effective written and oral communication and presentation skills. 2. Ability to teach broadly across computer science or cybersecurity curricula. 3. Ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels. 4. Ability to conduct research with, and advise, graduate and undergraduate students. 5. Ability to independently lead a successful research program. 6. An established track record on the previous items is required for ranks above Assistant Professor. 7. Ability to articulate a plan for conducting research and teaching at Michigan Tech.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
1. Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints. 2. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver university-level courses in both in-person and online formats. 3. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a research team, including graduate students, undergraduate students, research staff, and other faculty. 4. Demonstrated familiarity with funding opportunities for the candidate’s research program. 5. The ability to contribute service to their department and profession.

Founded in 2019, Michigan Tech’s College of Computing is Michigan’s first and largest computing-focused college. The College is in a phase of rapid growth and investment, including multiple new faculty positions, new academic programs, and planning for a new building. Since 2019, enrollment in the college has grown by two-thirds and research expenditures have tripled.
