UIC is seeking a Building Automation Systems Engineer to join our OVCAS IT and Building Systems team. Under general supervision of the Assistant Director, Building Automation Systems, the Building Automation Systems Engineer is responsible for administering, maintaining, and support campus building automation systems at the Chicago campus.
Duties & Responsibilities
Programs, designs, implements, maintains, and improves complex building automation systems (BAS), Direct Digital Control (DDC) devices and equipment, as well as their integration to other low voltage control sub-systems.
Administers and maintains campus automation infrastructure related to HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning), lighting, irrigation, and related systems in university buildings.
Plans for upgrades and routine maintenance related to building automation servers, supervisory systems, integration controllers, programmable field controllers, sensors, dampers, valves, alarms, and other control devices.
Analyzes building automation system data, generates reports of building system performance, and develops measures to rectify issues discovered using analytics and reports.
Troubleshoots and develops solutions for resolution of problems related to automation systems.
Prepares budgets, cost estimates, and specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
Works closely with campus Heat, Light and Power teams to ensure optimal operation of automation systems.
Collaborates with the Office of Capital Planning and Project Management, Physical Plant Construction group, and other campus teams on project requirements and issues related to automation systems.
Meets with internal (OVCAS) and external customers to understand and develop automation system requirements related to project, corrective and preventive maintenance, as well as future upgrades.
Assists in the maintenance of campus building standards related to automation systems.
Assists in the review of engineering related construction or maintenance work completed by staff, contractors, testing companies and/or consultants.
Assists in the direction of relevant work while ensuring that all construction codes and campus mandated standards are met.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor Degree - Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management, related information management field of study.
Minimum of 1 year of professional level IT experience within Building Automation Systems which includes installing, programming, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining building automation systems (for HVAC, lighting and other building systems).
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year professional experience in the area of HVAC automation systems
Tridium Niagara N4 certification
