About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, the Director of Administration and Finance is responsible for overseeing the operations of all business activities and directing and coordinating actions across a large department of over 100 faculty and several Research Centers and Institutes. The Director ensures the compliance and effective operations for various areas of the department including financial management, research procurement/compliance and donor relations, human resources and personnel management, space planning and safety, academic program operations and development, and student services and faculty management. The Director will be the first point of contact to key constituents across campus including students, faculty, staff, advisory board members, alumni, and donors. This position leads and regularly optimizes the day-to-day operations and serves as a subject expert for all business processes, policies, and systems. They must work to ensure that the department is reaching goals set by the Chair and Dean.
The Director will supervise the administrative staff members in the department by overseeing workload distribution and assignments, performance evaluations, providing opportunities for mentorship, training, and professional development. They will partner with College and University offices including human resources, finance, and student employment to ensure optimal student and faculty support is provided.
The Director continuously evaluates all existing operations procedures to determine improvements, establish new programs, policies, and protocols to enhance the department and institutes functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred, with 8-15 years of relevant experience in General Administration responsibilities. Knowledge of experience in finance administration, human resources, and project management and research, space and student and teaching support. Ability to plan, lead staff, collaborate, and make effective decisions. Effective communication skills, analytical skills and ability to focus on the big picture and the overall operational needs of the department and institutes while executing the day-to-day transactional and tactical activities.
