The Senior Associate Director for Strategic Content will take a leading role in telling Bentley Universityâ™s story in multiple formats, including online stories, social media, photos and video. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications, this person will manage and edit a team of writers and social media producers who work to engage students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students and parents, and other external and internal audiences in support of the universityâ™s key messages and overall brand.
Essential Duties
Manage and lead a team of writers and social media producers, brainstorming stories, social media content, photo and video, and editing the content through to publication.
Actively identify and assign stories that demonstrate the breadth of the Bentley experience and attract viewers to the website and social media channels while supporting the universityâ™s key messages.
Manage an editorial calendar that ensures a steady flow of compelling stories about life at Bentley, aligning with key events on campus; keeping messages consistent across channels; and providing content for the website, social media, e-newsletters and more.
Leverage a strong command of grammar and storytelling to ensure that content is clear, interesting and accessible by multiple audiences.
Work with the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications to lead biweekly meetings to share and brainstorm story ideas with communicators from across the university, ensuring that the content produced is shared as widely as possible.
Measure engagement with the stories, social media and other content produced to reach and interact with audiences where they are most active online.
Other Duties
Work in a team environment, sharing ideas and working with colleagues in Strategic Communications and across the university, to build relationships and identify stories to pursue.
Manage three direct reports in a manner that inspires their creativity and best work and maintains high morale.
Post content to the website using the universityâ™s content management system. (Training is provided.)
Write copy for the website and other communications as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to work with, lead, mentor, edit and manage writers and social media producers.
Ability to envision and assign stories in different formats, e.g., online stories, social media, photos, graphics and video.
Exceptional writing and editing skills with acute attention to grammar and spelling.
Demonstrated ability to proof and rewrite copy for accuracy, brevity, clarity and style.
Bachelorâ™s degree from an accredited university, preferably in journalism, English, communications or a related field.
Six or more years of editing, writing and project management experience including three or more years managing one or more staff.
Work or personal experience that contributes to the institution-wide commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Ability to work well in a fun, team environment, including at least two days per week on the Bentley campus.
