General Summary
The Assistant Athletics Director for Broadcast Productions will oversee the production and management of all live video broadcasts for EMU?s athletic events, including men?s and women?s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball. This role also involves supporting videoboard shows for football, graduations, and various external events.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Direct and help produce multi-camera live productions/broadcasts for football, men?s and women?s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball.
Ensure production standards for all broadcasts, including proper staffing, creation and maintenance of production schedules, and technical setup, are met. Also, includes coordinating with the Mid-American Conference, ESPN+, and other broadcast partners to meet their production standards and schedules.
Oversee the production and execution of video board content for athletic and other events, including graduations and external events.
Develop and produce video content (player green screens, crowd prompts, game recaps, highlights, player features, etc.), following EMU, the Mid-American Conference, and ESPN brand standards. Also, manage the archival of footage, highlights, and related content for future use.
Recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of production student and freelance crew members (camera operators, replay operators, graphics personnel, on-air talent, etc.). Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for staff and student workers.
Maintain and manage all broadcast production equipment, ensuring optimal working condition. Assist in coordinating and supervising home events, ensuring smooth execution of broadcast operations.
Build relationships and collaborates with:
Media Relations and other departments to ensure cohesive and effective communication strategies, marketing, corporate sponsorships (Lear field), and game-day staff to integrate videoboard content seamlessly into the overall event presentation
On-campus academic partners (Communication, Media & Theatre Arts, Sports Management, etc.), and local and national media to increase EMU Athletics' coverage and exposure.
Stay up-to-date on the latest broadcast technologies, implementing improvements.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of Eastern Michigan Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in communications, video production, or a related field is required.
Minimum of three years of experience in live broadcast production, preferably in a collegiate athletic environment, is required.
Demonstrated proficiency with broadcast production equipment, including Ross (Carbonite & XPression), NewTek 3Play, RTS, Clear-Com, Daktronics, UBER Displays, OES, and ChyronHego is required.
Live event directing and engineering experience is required.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects) and other video editing software is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines, are required.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team is required.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Proficiency in social media management and content creation is required.
Hands-on experience working with students is required.
