Job Description:
Responsible for the strategic oversight and curation of all music programming for KRTU 91.7 FM, a Non-Commercial Educational (NCE) licensed station, owned by Trinity University. This role encompasses production for both terrestrial and digital platforms, ensuring a cohesive and engaging listener experience.
Oversees broadcast program production of KRTU's flagship documentary programs, The Jazz Break at Noon and the South Texas Jazz Project; supervises and mentors all on-air talent jazz and indie including staff, students, volunteer host (approximately 45 people); vets program pitches, ensuring production schedules are developed and met; manages production resources and budget, and ensures all local productions are accurate and high in quality.
Hosts multiple on-air weekday shifts. Produces regular educational KRTU jazz programming including documentary programs for the South Texas Jazz Project. Conducts both live and taped community, national and international interviews for broadcast. Performs post-production editing on content and prepares programs for broadcast, live events with station members and archives.
Manages budget in support of programmatic needs of the station to include staff professional development.
Annually, monthly and weekly develops and executes a comprehensive content strategy plan that is aligned with the station's mission and goals; provides station management with regular programming updates and analysis of audience feedback and data, identifying trends, opportunities, and threats to inform station investments (budget) in content and technology.
Oversees the acquisition, scheduling, and promotion of all music programming, including the acquisition and vetting of new releases working with national promoters and charting systems.
Works collaboratively with KRTU's underwriting team on production of local underwriting announcements (spots); works collaboratively with KRTU's development team on production of fundraising messages and educational content with emphasis on membership drives.
Represents the station at community events and industry conferences. Builds and maintains strong relationships with the community, including listeners, musicians, artists, and university stakeholders.
May teach radio practicum course 1120-1 Radio Host / Trainee.

Assists with the cultivation of listener members, donors, and underwriters.
Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.

EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Communication, Journalism, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Three years of progressively responsible experience in broadcasting and streaming.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
Extensive knowledge of jazz music, artists, audiences, and history of jazz (1900 to present).
Knowledge and understanding of the principles and procedures for programming and hosting for a Non-Commercial Educational (NCE) licensed, listener-supported radio station.
Radio broadcast programming skills, including knowledge of automation and scheduling software. Extensive experience in audio production with a focus on digital audio for broadcast and streaming.
Knowledge of FCC regulations, guidelines, and standards including underwriting and promotional regulations and standards for (NCE) public radio.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Strong organizational and coordinating skills.
Ability to educate and supervision students.
Ability to supervise and train community volunteers. Ability to help with the training, recruitment, and supervision of students and community volunteer announcers.
Ability to host and monitor, develop and correct on-air host performance.
Strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to work effectively and constructively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff to create a positive and healthy work environment.
