The Assistant Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations is a key member of the University of Maryland School of Social Work's (SSW) advancement team. The Assistant Director is SSW's lead advancement services administrator and manages a broad apparatus for stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of donors supporting SSW's mission and strategic goals. This position is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive program for stewardship, engagement and recognition for donors, alumni and SSW constituents at all levels.
The Assistant Director will work closely with internal partners, including SSW leadership and faculty, financial professionals and other campus administrators. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and resourceful professional who can manage a complex ecosystem of fund and gift administration, donor engagement and recognition, scholarship stewardship and endowment reporting. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively to advance SSW goals and will also work closely with the Director of Development and Alumni Relations and the Associate Dean of External Affairs on team projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring an eclectic skillset and proven professional track record of problem-solving, strategic planning, communications, collaboration and resourcefulness, and should be familiar with advancement services best practices working in higher education.

Essential Functions:
Work to implement a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program that strategically engages and acknowledges prospects, donors and key stakeholders for the purpose of fundraising.
Collaborate in the implementation of a comprehensive alumni and constituent engagement program that includes events, programs and targeted communications.
Work across the SSW ecosystem to steward donor-created programs such as scholarships, professorships and strategic SSW initiatives.
Recommend organizational improvements in stewardship and constituent engagement programming and systems.
Ensure consistent stewardship and donor relations practices, including making sure that donor-funded scholarship funds are awarded in accordance with donor(s') wishes.
Manage and execute special events.
Help manage SSW's participation in giving days and Giving Tuesday.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Experience: Five (5) years progressively building a background in the various philanthropic functions, including at least two (2) years in donor data maintenance, donor support or stewardship, gift administration or advancement services. Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of experience providing work coordination, training, or supervision of others. Other: No substitution of experience for minimum requirement.

Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and project management skills to manage multiple deadlines, projects, contacts and details.
Strong attention to detail and a high degree of organizational resourcefulness.
Strong writing, editing and research skills.
A collaborative, team-focused approach with an ability to interact effectively with both external and internal audiences and constituents.
A growth mindset and ability to prioritize tasks, think proactively, and work independently, using good judgment and experience to make decisions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google Suite, and virtual platforms such as Zoom.

Prior experience with CRM platforms and online fundraising tools including: Give Campus, Advance or Blackbaud.
Prior experience working in higher education advancement.
Experience using graphic design software (i.e. Canva or Adobe Creative Suite).
Hiring Range: $92,000 - $102,000, commensurate with education and experience.
