Position description Pending availability of funding, a postdoctoral scholar is needed in the Digital Learning Lab at the University of California, Irvine, to support research on federally funded projects that are designing, implementing, and evaluating computational thinking curriculum for diverse elementary school students, with a focus on the needs of English language learners. Research will include designing curricula; designing and implementing professional development activities; collecting and analyzing data; writing reports, articles, and presentations; preparing grant proposals; managing relations and communications with school districts and university partners; supervising undergraduate and graduate student researchers; and submitting and updating human subjects protocols. This is a mentored position working under Distinguished Professor Mark Warschauer designed to support the candidate's trajectory as an educational scholar.
The starting date for the position is flexible and negotiable. The appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension pending availability of funding.
Requirements: Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in hand by the start date; outstanding writing, communication, and research skills; and interest or experience in computer science education research. Interest or background in the education of English language learners, K-12 education, curriculum development, and teacher professional development are also desired. Local daytime travel to schools in Southern California is required so the candidate will require their own transportation for the purpose within 30 days of starting the position. Fluency in Spanish is desirable but not required.
