The Creative Writing Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Fiction. Desirable subspecialties include such fields as Climate Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Digital Storytelling, Graphic Narrative, and Hybrid Forms. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of 4 years beginning Fall 2025 and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of Fiction. Desirable subspecialties include Climate Fiction, Speculative Fiction, Digital Storytelling, Graphic Narrative, and Hybrid Forms. The incumbent will teach courses at all levels of our curriculum, from 100 (primarily first-years and non-majors) to 400 (senior work). We especially welcome applications from candidates interested in deepening and expanding the already rich offerings at our 200 (intermediate) and 300 (advanced, majors- and minors-only) levels.
The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and/or creative work appropriate to the position and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, mentoring undergraduate research, and service to the department and on committees.
Required qualifications:
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the MFA or PhD degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2025). Candidates must have at minimum one book published or under contract with a nationally recognized press. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable, as is experience teaching at a selective liberal arts institution. Compensation:
