The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale is seeking a career driven, self-motivated individual to join their team as an Assistant Superintendent. Torresdale is a Golden Age design with bentgrass/Poa annua greens, tees and fairways. The 9-hole Par 3 Course - “The Landing” opened for play this spring. The 25-acre short course includes Tahoma 31 bermudagrass fairways and tees and bentgrass putting greens constructed with variable depth mix. The irrigation system is Toro – 2-wire Infinity with HDPE piping.

Preferred Qualifications
2-4 years of progressive experience in the turfgrass maintenance industry with at least 1 year of supervisory experience
High School Diploma with certificate or degree in Turfgrass Science or comparable program
Must obtain and maintain a PA Pesticide Applicator’s License 90 days following hire date
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent and other management team members
The Assistant Superintendent is 100% in charge and responsible for the Green Department operation if the Superintendent is not on property.
Possess a strong knowledge base for the daily maintenance of a golf course including, but not limited to hand watering, operating and troubleshooting of an automatic irrigation system, pesticide and fertilizer applications, record keeping, IPM measures, equipment operation and golf course set up.
Ability to schedule and is responsible for making certain that the entire staff is thoroughly trained and tuned into the member experience at all times.
Effectively delegating job duties amongst the staff is essential in maximizing the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
Always being cognizant of the quality of the work that the staff delivers is important and making corrective decisions within the operation to ensure the best possible product is delivered will be a responsibility of the Assistant Superintendent.
Opens the facility when necessary, attend to the immediate needs set forth by the Superintendent, members and their guests
Work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the golf course and operation to perform work in all climatic conditions including cold, hot and rainy weather
Accurately perform chemical applications and fertilizer applications to all golf course entities including greens, tees, fairways, bunker faces, roughs and wooded areas.
Effectively communicate with employees and clubhouse personnel to keep an open line of communication and understanding of the status of the golf course.
Research, recruit, hire and mentor student intern(s) for the season. Once interns are hired, develop an intern welcome packet that includes important employment information. Coordinate housing accommodations for interns.
