CMU's Central University Communications and Marketing Office (UCM) is seeking a Video Producer to create compelling video content that tells the stories of CMU and raises the reputation of the University.
We are looking for someone who can take a "creative problem" and find the "creative solution" through the power of video storytelling. The Video Producer will have a background in short and long form video creation and production for social and digital platforms. The Video Producer will be able to understand the CMU brand and will be tasked to conceptualize and execute content that highlights the marketing priorities and brand pillars of Carnegie Mellon University. This position sits within the Creative Department, working alongside other video producers, photographers, designers, and content curators. The Video Producer reports to the Director of Visual Storytelling. The Video Producer will create video content as assigned, as well as act as a "video journalist" in some capacity to research, pitch, and produce video content that aligns with CMU's brand pillars and marketing priorities.
Core responsibilities include:
- Research, ideate, conceptualize, pitch, and produce videos for marketing-specific initiatives, as well as to tell stories that demonstrate/highlight CMU's brand pillars.
- Own and take responsibility for video projects from start to finish as a hands-on producer. This includes conceptualizing, pre-production, production, and post-production
- Put together concepts/creative briefs for projects (both assigned and realized) to identify and articulate the "creative solution" for the "creative problem"
- Assume the roles as producer, director, cinematographer, and editor for the projects they own/are responsible for
- Collaborate with other video producers on projects, shoots, and assignments
- Coordinate directly with subjects to schedule and capture shoots
- Ensure that all creative output/visuals are consistent with the overall brand
- Own and produce multiple projects at a time and adhere to deadlines
- Organize, consolidate, and archive finished projects
- Adhere to the standard practices, protocols, and processes set forth by the department
- Create/capture video b-roll assets as needed for CMU's Digital Asset Management (DAM)

- Ability to prioritize and run various projects simultaneously, understand detailed requirements, and determine a plan that will ensure projects are met within schedule and resources
- Excellent interpersonal skills to clearly and effectively communicate the creative vision, concepts, ideas, and solutions to collaborators, internal teams, and clients
- Ability to solve practical problems by relying on strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in film/television, video, or equivalent/related professional experience
- 2 years of professional experience (equivalent educational experience will be considered)
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in visual storytelling
- Creative writing and storyboarding skills
- Advanced understanding and technical skillset in lighting design, cinematography, shot design, and post-production/editing
- Advanced knowledge of video recording/camera functionality. This includes an understanding of resolutions, shutter speed, frame rate, aperture, color temperature/white balance, ISO, etc.
- Advanced use of editing software: Premiere Pro, AfterEffects, and Audition -- and working knowledge of Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
- Working knowledge of social media platforms (including Reels, YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok) and optimizing video for performance and SEO
- Be open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism
- Experience in motion media and/or animation is preferred, but not required

Additional Information:
- This position resides at CMU's Oakland campus (in Pittsburgh, PA) and requires presence in office a minimum of 3 days per week
