Department Summary
The UCLA Department of Design Media Arts (DMA) strives to educate conscientious designers and media artists and to create socially and culturally relevant work. DMA's renowned faculty guide students to develop truly contemporary practices in typography, graphic design, branding, digital fabrication/printing, photography/video, video games and 3D modeling, virtual/augmented reality, art+science, social and environmental practice, public arts, media archeology and theory, creative coding, interaction, electronics, and interface design. We make our work public in galleries and laboratories, as social media, on large screens, smart phones and game consoles, in media installations, performances and public spaces, as websites, posters, books and magazines. Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Chair of Design Media Arts (DMA) and the Associate Dean of Administration, coordinate and manage financial, administrative, and program elements within the Department. Major duties include short- and long-term strategic planning, administrative and fiscal oversight of department services, staff, and facilities; and coordination of programs (including summer institute and summer sessions), student and alumni activities. The manager functions both independently and in conjunction with the Chair and faculty on a broad range of duties. Primary responsibilities include strategic and long range planning; policy and direction setting; problem solving; decision making; budgetary, staffing and resource management; as well as general administrative management of the department. Serve as administrative liaison with the Dean's Office in clarifying Department goals and objectives.

5 years of experience in Arts management or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. (Required)
Ability to analyze complex administrative and organizational issues, problems, practices, and procedures, as well as the ability to formulate logical and objective conclusions, recognizing alternatives and their implications. (Required)
Demonstrated working knowledge of government general/fund accounting and business practices to effectively manage complex budgets. Knowledge of accounting standards and reconciliation methods. (Required)
Financial skills sufficient to calculate ratios and rates, to determine current year costs, to provide financial projections, to understand indirect costs allocations, and to prepare reports and analyses. (Required)
Writing and editing skills sufficient to produce professional, clear andliterate proposals and supporting materials. (Required)
Ability to articulate, in a one-to-one basis, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to impart and obtain information. (Required)
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Ability to perform effectively and patiently with frequent interruptions and a fluctuating workload. (Required)
Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, students and staff. (Required)
Ability to effectively supervise staff, student workers and volunteers. Ability to handle confidential material with judgment and discretion. (Required)
Demonstrated skill in operating a personal computer, using word processing spreadsheet and database formats required by department, Word for Windows, Excel and Access, or equivalent. (Required)
Background in the visual arts, or design. (Preferred)
Familiarity with administration of academic personnel in a research university setting, as well as experience with standard UCLA systems such as UC Path, OSFR, People Admin, and UC Recruit, among others. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor's Degree in the Arts or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. (Required)
