Job Description
TheSecurity Engineer will be responsible for multiple day-to-day security tasks,plus various information security projects, as part of supporting the BostonCollege community's information security needs.
Projectstypically involve evaluating, designing, and deploying security solutions tomeet Boston College's needs. Such projects frequently require working withothers to determine requirements and select appropriate solutions. From there,typical projects include developing and implementing these solutions. A SecurityEngineer also recommends strategies to prevent security exposures and preventintrusions with guidance from the Director of Policy and Security, works withothers to manage access control for non-Information Security projects, andanalyzes the output of various security monitoring systems.
Day-to-day tasks include cyber incident response, evaluation and implementationof requests for firewall changes, monitoring of various security products andaudit logs, and providing technical guidance regarding these products. Dailytasks also include providing ongoing support and advice to IT staff and endusers on a variety of security issues, and ensuring that Boston College'ssecurity policies and procedures are adhered to.
This individual will be highly focused on the technical aspects of informationsecurity, in contrast to a SoC analyst or a policy & governance specialist.
Title and salary commensurate withrelevant experience. This position offers a hybrid work schedule at the discretion of management.
Requirements
BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology orrelated field preferred.
Strong technical knowledge in at least one of the technical domains ofinformation security such as access control systems, firewalls, IntrusionDetection/Prevention, and Internet security.
Strong knowledge of operating system administration for servers and desktops,plus network security and application security.
Strong project management and communication skills.
Coding skills in C, Java, PERL, Python, or a similar language are stronglypreferred.
Experience with firewalls and Intrusion Detection/Prevention systems isstrongly preferred.
Must be able to work with and influence people at multiple levels within amajor university.
Must be able to work independently and within a team setting.
Preferred/Desired:
Security certification such as CertifiedInformation Systems Security Professional (CISSP), SANS, or similarcertification.
