Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Business Intelligence Analyst position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description: The Business Intelligence Analyst will be a key team member in the department of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE). The department supports the college's mission and commitment to student learning and success by providing quality, accessible, reliable, and relevant information to facilitate decision-making and planning processes, enhance institutional effectiveness, and promote a culture of evidence-based inquiry and supports the institution at all levels including stakeholders both within and outside of the college.
This position works collaboratively with Business Systems Analysts, Technology Services, and other stakeholders under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness to transform college data into meaningful information through interactive data visualizations, dashboards, and other reports. The position acts as a translator by communicating difficult, technical concepts to a non-technical audience, using the appropriate analytical tools.
The position is 50% grant funded through Sept 30, 2029 and will be fully institutionalized and funded by the college by the close of the grant cycle.
Essential Functions:
Data Visualization
Generates clear, compelling, and accessible visualizations allowing users to generate insights using tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
Adapts the visualization format based on the needs and comprehension levels of multiple audiences, from operational staff to executive leadership.
Strategic Analysis
Interprets data and offers recommendations to the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and other stakeholders.
Collaborates closely with multiple departments to identify opportunities for process improvement and reporting.
Reports on institutional and grant key performance indicators.
Produces and presents reports on student success (e.g., credit accumulation, retention, and completion), demographics, educational interventions, and other subjects as required. Reports may require the use of advanced statistical analysis and require comparison between cohorts based on specific variables.
Data Management
Handles raw data in various formats, including SQL, CSV, etc.
Queries data in a complex, multi-table database using SQL, R, and/or other languages.
Assures data quality and integrity by implementing relevant validation techniques.
Technical Support and Collaboration
Offers technical expertise and support to other departments as needed.
Works closely with Technology Services and other data-related departments to achieve strategic objectives.
Miscellaneous
Helps foster a culture of inquiry, improvement, and evidence-based decision-making.
Represents the department on collegewide committees and/or project-based working groups, as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.

Technological Fluency: Demonstrates proficiency with large data sets, spreadsheets, and relational databases, such as Excel, Access, and SQL server. Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy with complex data sets.Possesses familiarity with big data tools, cloud computing, data warehousing, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence in research.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across various departments to achieve institutional objectives.
Qualifications: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
This position is designed to be filled at either a level 1 or 2 depending on qualifications.
Level 1 Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Sociology or related field; OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
Demonstrable intermediate to advanced expertise in data manipulation and visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency querying relational databases, such as Oracle and SQL. Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP system preferred.
Level 2 Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Sociology or related field AND advanced expertise in data manipulation and visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI. R expertise; OR equivalent combination of education/experience. Master's Degree preferred.
Advanced proficiency querying relational databases, such as Oracle and SQL. Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP system preferred.
Ability to use independent judgment with select authority for decision making.
Exemplary professional experience in a data analysis role, preferably in an educational or research-oriented setting.
Level of Supervision
Level 1- General supervision - Advice and assistance is available as needed. Review of work may be frequent but generally not detailed. Emphasis placed upon quality of completed assignments.
Performs recurring assignments without daily oversight following established guidelines, policies, procedures and work methods.
Responsible for prioritizing day-to-day work tasks. Supervisor provides guidance and approves deviation from established guidelines, policies, procedures and work methods.
Decision-making is limited in context to the completion of work tasks. Completed work is consistent with established guidelines, policies, procedures and work methods. Supervisory guidance is provided in new or unusual situations.

Conditions/Terms of Employment
This position is in a bargaining unit for which AFT is the exclusive representative.
This is a full-time professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in office environments. This contract position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. During the summer, work schedule is Monday through Thursday 10-hours each day.
Compensation: Annual salary range for initial placement based on the represented exempt salary schedule Level 1: $68,858 - $77,907; Level 2: $72,301 - $81,802. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
