POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Disability Support Services has the primary responsibility to provide oversight and management of services for students with disabilities. This position will provide and facilitate accommodative services (review diagnostic assessments, and other documentation, and conduct accommodation interviews during the interactive process) for undergraduates and graduate students. They will collaborate with college departments to assist with campus access and compliance. The Director will advocate on campus for the office's programs and services, including all marketing and advertising; service on campus-wide committees; and liaison works with parents, state agencies, and school districts.
They must have a thorough knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other relevant legislation pertaining to higher education and disability.
Under the direction of and in consultation with the Associate Provost for Student Development/ Dean of Students, they will administer an inclusive program encompassing services to provide equal access as well as set the mission of the Office of Disability Support Services. The office will function in accordance with compliance with Federal and State regulation, the mission of the college, and in consultation with the needs of college employees outside of Disability Support Services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Lead the Disability Support Services office, managing daily operations, supervising staff, and fostering a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement.
Develop and enforce policies and procedures that ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, while promoting best practices in disability services.
Oversee the annual budget, ensure efficient allocation of resources, and prepare comprehensive reports for institutional review and strategic planning.
Work closely with academic departments and student services to ensure an integrated approach to disability support, such as coordinating with faculty to develop accessible curriculum materials, and ensuring equal access to educational opportunities in support of student retention.
Engage with key college departments (Admissions, IT, Residence Life, Career Services, Physical Plant, HEOP/AHANA, Faculty, etc.) to create a supportive network for students with disabilities and enhance campus-wide accessibility.
Innovate and lead programs that support the academic and personal growth of students with disabilities, such as peer mentoring and transition programs for incoming students in support of student retention.
Organize and facilitate training seminars for academic advisors, faculty, staff, and students to raise awareness and proficiency in supporting students with disabilities.
Partner with IT to provide and maintain adaptive technologies, such as screen readers and speech-to-text software, to support students' learning and accessibility needs.
Collect, analyze, and utilize data to track accommodation requests, service utilization, and academic outcomes, producing regular reports to inform decision-making and improve services.
Create and manage marketing materials, including the department's website and social media, to promote services and increase awareness among students, faculty, and staff.
Identify and apply for grants and other funding opportunities to enhance services and support for students with disabilities.
Partner with external agencies, such as state disability services and advocacy organizations, to support students' college experience and ensure access to additional resources.
Ensure that all programs and services reflect the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, actively working to remove barriers and foster a welcoming environment for all students.
Develop and implement crisis management protocols, providing immediate support and coordination with counseling services during emergencies involving students with disabilities.
Work with a broad range of students, including undergraduate, graduate, and non-traditional populations, tailoring services to meet their unique needs in their transition to higher education and future careers through specialized orientation programs and career counseling.
Create and regularly update emergency preparedness plans tailored to the needs of students with disabilities, including training staff and conducting drills.
Work closely with academic departments and student services to ensure an integrated approach to disability support, such as coordinating with faculty to develop accessible curriculum materials.
Lead the development of innovative projects, such as new support programs and peer mentoring initiatives, that address emerging needs and best practices in disability services.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Education, Disability Services, Psychology, or related field.
Thorough knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other relevant legislation pertaining to higher education and disability.
Five (5) to Eight (8) years of progressively responsible management-level experience in serving students with disability at the college at a major educational institution or at a comparable community service agency.
At least 3 years of experience with ADA applications and providing support services to students with disabilities, preferably on the post-secondary level
Experience with a college student/young adult population is required.
Experience in a college university setting is preferred.
A high level of expertise in the areas of supervision, delivery of accommodations, and assessment.
Must have the ability to work with people with a broad range of difficulties.
Demonstrate ability to train and supervise a multidisciplinary professional staff.
Three (3) to Five (5) years experience in a supervisory role at the level of assistant director or above preferred.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate ability to work effectively with persons with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Experience with reviewing diagnostic assessments and documentation.
