MICA seeks a dedicated educator and entrepreneur with professional experience to serve as a part-time faculty member. The ideal candidate will be well versed in business applications across a variety of professional creative practices. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about the future of creative entrepreneurship and its potential within the fields of fine arts and design. The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach courses offered in its Creative Entrepreneurship minor on an ongoing basis. MICA is a private art and design college nationally known for the high quality of its undergraduate and graduate programs, its dedication to student learning and teaching excellence, and its distinction in fine art and design at national and international levels.

Additionally, MICA is dedicated to delivering Creative Entrepreneurship to students through various courses in undergraduate majors, minors, graduate majors.

MICA is also home to the The Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship. RCCE was established in 2020 to substantially expand the MICAs support for its creative thinkers and innovators through co-curricular offerings and to expand access to business skill development for all students, no matter their major course of study.

General purpose of this position: To provide instruction for students enrolled in Creative Entrepreneurship courses covering a range of business topics as applied in numerous professional creative practices. Adjunct faculty are encouraged to incorporate professional, global and diverse perspectives into lectures, assignments, and course projects.

Adjunct faculty work directly with the Faculty Lead of Creative Entrepreneurship who establishes the course descriptions, learning objectives, and standardizes rubrics and syllabi. They also collaborate and coordinate with Faculty Lead, Creative Entrepreneurship and other MICA faculty. Courses generally meet once a week

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of foundational business practices as applied by professional artists and designers in one or more creative sectors.

• Selected topics covered in this minor include:

  • Foundations of starting and running a creative venture

  • Strategy, systems thinking and futures

  • Branding, Marketing and Social Media

  • Management and Leadership

  • Foundations of Budgeting and Finance

  • Foundations of Business Formation and Taxes

• Applicants will have education and experience in at least one of the above areas of knowledge as it pertains to professional applications for artists and designers across creative sectors.

• Applicants will be comfortable with using technology used in a classroom setting.

• Applicants will be able to demonstrate pedagogical knowledge of their subject area.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field in combination with10 years of related professional experience

Preferred qualifications:

• Masters degree in a related field In combination with 5 years of related professional experience
