Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Insurance Traded Risk Manager.
Principal Responsibilities
Purpose of the Job (overall high level summary of the job)
As a member of the HBAP Insurance Traded Risk Team, this role supports the oversight of market, credit and liquidity risk in the insurance businesses across the region (Hong Kong, Singapore and Mainland China).The role works closely with stakeholders in the business and functions and is involved in various regional projects to support the growth of insurance business in the region.
Work with local, regional and Group Insurance Risk, Wholesale Credit Risk and Traded Risk functions at various levels to provide oversight and support business growth across the region
Collaborate with teams across Actuarial, Investment, Finance, and the local business management teams to support the overall business agenda
Support the Regional Head of Insurance Market and Credit Risk to develop an appropriate risk appetite for market, credit and liquidity risks
Provide subject matter expertise support to the business, including review of strategic asset allocation, investment due diligence, review and challenge new product, insurance product re-pricing, asset-liability management under Risk-Based Capital regimes and IFRS17, and contribution to develop risk mitigation strategy
Oversee balance sheet risks and investment activities of the insurance entities, establishing appropriate risk measures, including ensuring new investment initiatives have considered relevant market and credit risk factors
Understand clearly the economics of Insurance portfolios and institute appropriate early warning tools to identify emerging market risk issues embedded and report these to management so that preventive and/ or corrective actions can be taken
Assist Regional and Group Stakeholders to streamline and integrate market and credit limit structure to Economic Capital framework
Ad hoc or project based tasks
Handle ad hoc data and analysis requests raised by insurance sites, HBAP and Group Insurance
Partner with Investment, Finance, HBAP and Group Insurance for the risk management requirements
Enrich risk management process, design, test and track risk transparency initiatives
Admin & Infrastructure support
Support system/process implementation and delivery of good practices to remove unnecessary complexity and increase stability
Assist in collating Insurance bond portfolios' SPEAR data feeds, and relevant risk reporting
Produce Management Information for site, regional and Group meetings as required
Requirements
University degree holders
Practical exposure to Risk-Based Capital regimes and IFRS17 is a must
Quantitative skills in actuarial, advanced mathematics, or quantitative finance
Experience in risk management within Insurance
Ability to understand and interpret insurance product structure and complex business requirements, highlight problems and offer solution
Able to take responsibility and ownership of the role
Ambition to move forward
Solid communication skills, ability to influence partners within the Business and Risk Management function
Mandarin desirable
