This position has responsibilities for teaching Foundations – Analytical Reading or Analytical Reading at Ferris State University. Instruction will focus on providing students with the opportunity to become critical readers by increasing vocabulary, enhancing reading comprehension and recall, and improving reading skills to better prepare for college level reading.
This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.
This posting is being used for face to face and/or online instruction. However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
The anticipated start date of this position is August 2024 at the earliest and January 2025 at the latest. However, these are estimated dates and can be revised if needed.

Master’s degree in Reading, Developmental Education, Special Education or related field.
Required Work Experience:
Experience teaching and/or developmental studies at the college or K-12 levels. Experience teaching reading, developmental-level, and/or language arts at the high school and/or post-secondary levels.

Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes. Prior teaching experience in higher education. Prior experience in online and blended instruction.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach Foundations – Analytical Reading or Analytical Reading at Ferris State University as needed. Create a positive and engaging learning environment. Submit materials through Digital Measures for longitudinal data collection, assessment of continuous improvement. Submit syllabi to the department and participate in departmental assessment of courses. Disseminate and encourage students to complete course evaluation and course survey. Submit mid-term and final grades. Attend trainings. Participate in instructor evaluation/observations, up to once per semester. Utilize the Ferris Learning Management System. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are not limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Chair/Head of Developmental Curriculum. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information. Performs all duties in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and state and federal requirements.
Skills and Abilities:
Communicate effectively with a variety of people. Effectively teach students who are high school and/or traditional age, as well as adults. Demonstrate effective classroom (face-to-face) and on-line teaching. Demonstrated written and oral skills. Knowledge of current research on teaching and learning. Demonstrated commitment, experience and understanding for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
